HIST 354: History of Mexico explores the country’s society, politics, economy, and culture over the past two centuries, from the legacies of Spanish colonialism to contemporary Mexico and its deeply interconnected relationship with the United States.

Whether your interests are in Latin America, history, politics, migration, or international relations, this course offers valuable historical perspectives for understanding today’s world.

On July 13, community leaders, researchers, and advocates from Puerto Rico and Holyoke came together for Borikua Power: Building Energy & Climate Resilience Across the Diaspora, a bilingual public forum exploring energy resilience, climate justice, and community-led solutions.

The event is part of Puerto Rican Power: Networking Across the Diaspora to Design Energy Resilience, a CLACLS-funded Visioning Grant project led by Prof. Carolina Aragón, Prof. Eve Vogel, and Andrea Méndez, connecting Puerto Rico and Holyoke to strengthen more equitable and resilient energy systems.

CLACLS invites our community to attend an upcoming talk at the W. E. B. Du Bois Center featuring Dr. Matheus Gato de Jesus.

In “The Reception of Du Bois in Brazilian Social Thought,” Dr. Gato de Jesus examines how W. E. B. Du Bois’s work has been engaged and debated in Brazil, from affirmative action policies and Black social movements to ongoing discussions about race in academic research and public policy.

The talk will also highlight the Du Bois Project at Afro-CEBRAP, an initiative expanding access to his work in Portuguese and fostering dialogue across academia and civil society.
