Falcon fans: thank you for your patience. We hope to have the camera up by May 10.

In the meantime, we do have some news about one of our former tenants! Dr. Tom French has identified this falcon recently photographed on Mount Tom as S/71, our female falcon from 2015. According to Tom, “This is our third case in which we know an adult has moved to another nesting territory.”

#UMassGives 48 Hours in the Libraries: Student Workers: Where are They Now?
"The Library helped me academically because it gave me a place to study; it gave me a social life because of all the great people that I got to meet there; it helped me financially by giving me a job and letting me use books on reserve; it enriched my life because I read more books while working there than any time before or after; it gave me shelter in between the long rainy/windy/ snowy walks between classes." -Jawad Awan '17, Psychology.

#UMassGives 48 Hours in the Libraries: Student Workers: Where are They Now?

"Working in the library inspired me in many ways. I use lessons that I learned back then still today. It was my first time working with students and seeing their needs from their perspective; I try to provide good service to my students to this day and see what their learning needs are." -Shawna Butler '99, G'15, Nursing

These centers are dedicated to providing information about and support for patents and trademarks. #UMassGives 48 Hours in the Libraries: History
25 years ago, on October 5, 1994, the UMass Amherst Board of Trustees voted to rename the Tower Library in honor of W. E. B. Du Bois, the famous Massachusetts-born scholar and activist who fought for racial and social justice. Today, the Library is not only named after Du Bois, but it houses his papers and the W. E. B. Du Bois Center. Pictured here are the 2018-19 Du Bois Fellows and Scholars.

General information

The UMass Amherst Libraries system consists of W.E.B. Du Bois Library (including the Learning Commons), Science and Engineering Library, Image Collection Library, and Music Reserve Lab. Our Mission As a gateway to knowledge, the Libraries are a key partner in teaching, learning, and research at UMass Amherst and in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Supporting freedom of inquiry, the Libraries foster a diverse and inclusive environment in which to engage with ideas and acquire the critical skills necessary for life-long learning. By combining the latest information technology with excellent public service, the staff builds and maintains a rich information environment, facilitates access to it, and creates a hub of campus and community scholarly activity. Our staff of over 40 librarians, 80 paraprofessionals, and hundreds of student assistants are eager to assist both remote and in-building users. We are a member of the Association of Research Libraries and participate in many collaborations to broaden our collections and extend or enhance our services to UMass Amherst students, faculty, and staff. Community members are invited to visit our two library buildings, borrow materials, and enjoy most of our extensive services. Social Media Policy for the UMass Amherst Libraries The social media policy for the UMass Amherst Libraries covers the official social media channels of the UMass Amherst Libraries: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. The official social media channels will be maintained by the designated social media administrator for the purposes of promoting the mission and values of the UMass Amherst Libraries. The UMass Amherst Libraries reserve the right to remove or not to post content that is malicious, inappropriate, spam, violates Copyright or other rights, or does not promote the mission and values of the UMass Amherst Libraries.
