CISA | Taste the View

Andy Cox in this story earned a Certificate in Sustainable Food and Farming with us!

Come celebrate the harvest at CISA's Taste the View!

Join us at beautiful Quonquont Farm on September 23rd for an evening of tasty local (of course!) food, a lively auction to support CISA's work, and conversation with farmers, fellow ag supporters, and CISA staff and board.

Smith College Catering, led by new Director of Dining Services Andy Cox, will be serving up the best of the late summer bounty (here's just a taste: house made duck prosciutto; black bean and sweet potato cakes with homemade maple crème fraîche and chive; and beef sliders with local cheddar, parsnip aioli, and Real Pickles ...). You'll also find beer from Fort Hill Brewery and Northampton Brewery, cider from Headwater Cider, and wine from Amherst Farm Winery, Mount Warner Vineyard, Provisions, Mineral Hills Winery, and others.

The silent and live auctions are packed with items you won't want to miss: dinner for four at The Alvah Stone with Congressman McGovern, a CSA share at Intervale Farm in Westhampton, tickets to see Arlo Guthrie at The Academy of Music, and a scenic flight out of the Northampton airport, just to name a few.

Come eat, bid, and be merry! Tickets are available now. http://www.buylocalfood.org/support-cisa/ttv/

Join us in celebrating the diversity and bounty of local food with a wide variety of small plates and featured dishes made almost entirely with ingredients from Local Hero farms. We offer an open bar with wine, beer, and other beverages. Catering provided by Chef Andy Cox, head of Dining Services at...

UMass Spiritual Ecology and Regenerative Systems Initiative

What better way to relieve stress, and enjoy one of the last beautiful days than to put our permaculture knowledge to practice. Today at the ALC we got together to build some awesome new Hugelkultur beds (the ultimate natural raised garden bed)! By layering old logs, branches, twigs, compost, and soil we used onsite resources to create fertile beds loaded with organic matter for spring planting! The air pockets in the bed retain water, aerate roots, and create habitat for soil microorganisms- so there is no need to till or irrigate. In the spring we plan on planting melons and blueberry bushes. To read more about Huglekultur check out this website- http://www.richsoil.com/hugelkultur/.
