Analysis | Five states ban transgender girls from girls’ school sports. But segregating sports by s*x hurts all girls.

Inclusion in sports "is especially crucial for transgender youth, commonly harassed and excluded at school, which involvement in sports can mitigate. In addition to improving
trans students’ lives, the close ties built through sports teams can also encourage cisgender athletes to reduce transphobia and anti-trans bias."
— Prof. Libby Sharrow of the School of Public Policy at UMass Amherst & UMass Department of History in a Washington Post op-ed

When Title IX first segregated school sports into girls’ and boys’ teams, it was meant to be temporary.

Biden's plan to spend $775 billion on childcare and eldercare could create millions of jobs, study says | Markets Insider

"Wages are extremely low for the care workforce, based in the structural racism and s*xism that has consigned care work as 'women's work,' and disproportionately work by women of color that is not seen as economically valuable."
- SPP Professor Lenore Palladino, whose research is cited in an analysis of potential investments in childcare and eldercare by the Biden administration.

Hi everyone! Hope you're doing well on this sunny Monday :) There is a prospective MPP student who would love input from a current student about why they chose the UMass MPP/MPPA program in comparison to other schools they were looking at. I would love to give them a perspective from a student who did not go to UMass for undergrad since they got some of that insight at the info session last week. If anyone went to a different undergrad university and is interested in talking to a student about this, let me know :) thanks! Much appreciated.
Hi SPP! My Policy Methods research group and I are working on a project to understand the correlation between health education and e-cigarette usage. If you have any time, it would be really helpful to get your responses! The link is: https://forms.gle/hD99LJCTL35uhjs16 Thanks so much!
Hello Everyone! This is Dora, your union CoChair. Please share this online dues form so new UMass grads can join geo! The benefits ( tuition waiver, health insurance coverage, discounted parking, childcare reimbursement and so many more) we get as graduate employees do not com from vacuums, they are the result of the hard work our members put in in the past. We will only have the benefits that we do (and more) of we remain a strong union! Strength in numbers!
Izzy Rivera, candidate & current SPP student, and Tom Barrett, BA (Government) '69, MPA '75, candidate's campaign treasurer.
Remember when Bacon Hill Project spoke with Meghan- Well that was interesting but had we known he and other Suits for the school were going to cut themselves FAT bonuses, then i certainly would have taken a more critical perspective while questioning the man pledging to be the face of the University system- Screw the student - fatten our already hefty cost of living pay out to live in the State- freeze bonuses and raises when they hurt the students.....
Public Policy in its complimentary place in Regional and Urban Planning- Jane Jacobs-
Heading to DC soon - you might want to read this before you plan your day- If they are calling out sick finally without pay- then this might mean much longer waits.
I for one am deeply ashamed on the schools position on N**i rhetoric and allowing them to have a safe space on campus. Your school your paying $17,000-$32,000 are letting N**is feel welcomed
UMass believe we the school UMass Amherst should accept and welcome N**i's..... Tell me 10 reasons why students in the School of Public Policy would and should have an issues with this position......... After all N**i views are a freedom of speech but when they continuously cross lines targets black and brown bodies with a legacy of hate motivated crimes and killings... What not to love about them! Or thats what UMass Amherst wants us to believe.
Help us build a brighter future! We are hiring campus organizers across the country to help train the next generation of student activists. We all want to live meaningful lives in a world that's greener and healthier. As a campus organizer, you’ll work with students to build this future every day. If you want to work with great people, gain real skills and start making a difference on important issues right away, you should consider becoming a campus organizer. Find out more at
