PHI CHAPTER Est. November 2000
-In the search for the bonds of sisterhood, four women from the University of Massachusetts Amherst came across, Sincerity, Loyalty, and Unity. Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas, Sorority, Inc. made a lasting impression; it was an organization whose goals and ideals were centered on educating and providing service to underrepresented communities. It was a

n organization that paralleled the very ethics those women were striving for. In the Fall of 2000, at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, the Phi Chapter of SLU emerged.

______
On December 1, 1987 at Binghamton University, Founding Mothers Cynthia Santiago-Guzman, Adriana Zamora-Tirado, Carmen Ibeth Garcia-Quinones and Carol Elizabeth Torres created an organization that would not only serve as a voice for women in an academic setting, but would also provide sincere sisterhood and unconditional support while actively promoting academic achievement, service to the community, and cultural enrichment. Over 2 decades and more than 30 campuses later, the Hermanas of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority Inc. continue the legacy of our Founders' vision by effectively bridging the gap between the Latino community and the campuses we represent. Our goals and ideals continue to be exemplified by our Hermanas: Sisterhood, Leadership, Community Service, Cultural Awareness and Academic Excellence.
