It's (finally!) time to say goodbye to 2020. We're shutting down for the year, and so are LSAC and most law school admissions offices. You should too. Just because we can't go anywhere 😷 it doesn't mean we shouldn't press pause for a bit.

Happy holidays, enjoy the break, and we'll see you in 2021! 🎉

I’ve got some suggestions for thinking through your next steps that will hopefully (re)instill an attitude of gratitude for you. Your first step is to make a rational...

Need an uplifting post? Read this inspiring story about UMass Amherst alum Laurie Senat (Sociology and Political Science '16).

As racial tensions erupted across the United States, #UMassLaw 3L Laurie Senat, JD '21 worked quietly behind the scenes as a racial justice intern for the Committee for Public Counsel Services’ racial justice committee, known as Juvenile Defenders Dismantling Racism (JDDR).

Laurie worked on issues that impact youth of color, who are disproportionately represented in the juvenile court system. Read more below.

This panel TODAY (Thursday 9/10) looks to be of great interest for those of you contemplating careers in environmental law and sustainability.

How does the environmental justice movement include and exclude the lived experiences and voices of marginalized communities of color, and which issues does the movement tend to focus on and overlook? We can learn more about this by looking more closely at the ways in which food, climate, and farming intersect with race -- especially in urban cities and communities with higher populations of people of color.

This panel of experts in the environmental and food justice movements will talk about their work on creating equitable food systems, celebrating and reclaiming indigenous food culture, food security and the climate, and working with youth on health. The panelists discuss these topics through an intersectional lens connecting race to community, education, and the preservation of oral history.*

Panelists include:
Olivia Aguilar, Mount Holyoke College
Neftali Duran, Holyoke Food and Equity Collective Andrew Laurion, Urban Resources * Garden Economics (URGE), Springfield Lorena Moreno, Riquezas del Campo Cooperative Farm Jose Marinez, Riquezas del Campo Cooperative Farm

*We will have Spanish translation of the discussion

It’s no secret that Black people are seriously underrepresented in the legal profession, making up just 5% of lawyers (far less their 13% share of the US population). As a result, the law school experience can be challenging for Black students. We’ve invited three UMass Amherst alums who are currently in law school to share their experiences and advice.

Thursday, Sept. 17th, 7pm
All UMass Amherst students and alums welcome to attend. Registration required: https://tinyurl.com/lawschoolingwhileblack
