The UMass Amherst Anthropology Department’s Bioarchaeology and Forensic Anthropology Field School invites you to our field site! Our students are learning how to excavate human skeletal remains (they use plastic skeletons) using archaeological techniques at our unique taphonomy lab on UMass Campus. Come explore our lab, the excavation, and see what it’s all about! ☠️
Directions:
The site is located in a wooded area on UMass Campus. It is an area used by the agriculture department and includes popular walking paths.
To get there, head north on North Pleasant Street, and turn right at the College of Education on Furcolo Road. Drive through the first parking lot you enter (Lot 66) and you should come to parking lot 44A. This lot has solar panels that you can park under.
Park there, then walk along the path following the signs. This is likely a 10-minute walk. Please dress appropriately for a walk in a wooded area. There are bugs, mosquitos, and potential ticks.
