The American Constitution Society at the University of Michigan

The American Constitution Society at the University of Michigan This is the American Constitution Society at the University of Michigan. ACS is a national network of progressive constitutional scholars and attorneys.

The American Constitution Society (ACS) is a national organization that shapes debate on vitally important legal and constitutional issues through development and promotion of high-impact ideas to opinion leaders and the media; by building networks of lawyers, law students, judges and policymakers dedicated to those ideas; and by countering the activist conservative legal movement that has sought

to erode our enduring constitutional values. At the American Constitution Society at the University of Michigan, we organize discussions featuring prominent experts in the field of constitutional law. We also host special events ranging from our annual Supreme Court Roundup to our periodic small-group Professor Lunches, available to our national members. We are one of the nation's most active ACS chapters and were awarded "Chapter of the Year" at the 2009 national convention and "Chapter of the Week" in 2015 and 2016. https://www.acslaw.org/chapters/mi/university-of-michigan-law-school

09/05/2016

Join us this Wednesday, Sept. 7th @ 11:45 for our General Body Meeting in 1225 South Hall!!!

We will be electing 1L representatives to sit on the board for the rest of the year. Please come prepared with a short statement as to why you are interested in serving on the ACS Executive Board, and be prepared to speak briefly. (But really, it's casual!) If you are unable to make the meeting, but are still interested in being considered for a board position--email [email protected] with your name and statement of interest.

Check out the ACS website if you're interested in learning more about the organization (https://www.acslaw.org/about). At the Michigan Law Chapter we bring in prominent lawyers, judges, and other speakers from across the country to discuss recent legal issues and cases. We also hold networking and career related events throughout the year, connecting students with practicing lawyers in the Detroit area and beyond.

Potbelly’s Sandwiches will be served for lunch!

The American Constitution Society is pleased to host Justice Bridget Mary McCormack and Judge Judith E. Levy for a panel on their experiences as woman judges, with Professor Eve Primus moderating. Although the number of women judges in the United States is increasing, women are still a minority in the traditionally male-dominated court system. The question of why this pattern persists does not have a simple answer. Please join us on February 17 as Justice McCormack and Judge Levy share their stories, observations, and insights on their careers thus far.
