The Department of American Culture is a dynamic, growing, and well-established undergraduate and graduate program designed to address specific populations, periods, and discipl

ines to provide an integrative and intercultural perspective. Housed in Haven Hall on central campus, home to a talented faculty of 50 instructors, the Department promotes an open and objective intellectual approach to knowledge, supporting the qualities and skills necessary to innovate and confront situations in our complex world. The Department of American Culture houses three formally constituted Ethnic Studies units: Asian/Pacific Islander American Studies, Latina/o Studies, and Native American Studies. Recent faculty hiring has made possible development in the area of Arab American Studies as well. The Department also has significant strength in African American studies with many faculty members active in this field.
