📣 Call for Pitches: Rest, Repair, and Radical Healing — Responding to Structural Harm in the Workplace

Spark Magazine is seeking pitches for a new series examining the systems and structures that produce and perpetuate workplace harm. We invite writers to explore what rest, repair, and collective healing & wellness can look like in a culture that prioritizes productivity—and how we might reimagine workplaces to rejuvenate rather than extract.

Topics might explore:
-Resisting harmful structures and building collective, healing spaces in the workplace
-Frameworks and strategies for avoiding burnout
-The roles of culture, healing, extraction, rejuvenation, and redress in professional environments
-Mindful, reparative practices that center shared humanity in leadership and management
-Building and maintaining meaning, joy, connection, and pleasure in relation to labor
-Alternatives to the extractive workplace, e.g. envisioning or sharing examples of alternative workplace structures

Spark welcomes submissions from authors from a wide range of backgrounds, geographic locations, and cultural perspectives (Indigenous writers, writers from the Global South, community activists, academics, practitioners) who can help illuminate these questions for a broad public audience.

Pitches are due Monday, August 24.

This series is curated by Dr. Tia Sherèe Gaynor, Associate Professor of Leadership and Management at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and an IMTA certified mindfulness instructor.

The Inclusive History Project (IHP) is excited to share its Year 3 Annual Report, which highlights the incredible growth, achievements, and impact of the IHP this year.

Learn more about the IHP’s large-scale project sites with teams of faculty, staff, students, and community members; granting programs that support compelling projects across U-M’s campuses; a significant increase in the IHP's visibility and engagement through events and outreach; and the involvement of students throughout the IHP’s work as advisors, interns, researchers, and learners—especially through the tri-campus Student Advisory Committee. In the Year 3 Annual Report, you will also hear from a range of people involved with the IHP as they share, in their own words, their perspectives on the IHP’s collective work.
