Science and technology scholar Shobita Parthasarathy says data centers are a proxy for broader concerns about artificial intelligence and inequality and that the issue may drive some voters to the polls.

“People are just sort of increasingly alienated, fed up, and exercised by it in a way that I’ve never seen before. So I think it’s entirely possible that they could be motivated to go out to vote,” Parthasarathy told WAFB Channel 9.

In a project that aims to promote public awareness and understanding of food hardship, University of Michigan researchers Helen Levy and Natasha Pilkauskas will lead the collection of monthly data on food insufficiency from a national sample of U.S. households. The project will release quarterly issue briefs tracking food insufficiency rates overall and among key groups, including households with children and older adults.

The underlying microdata will be made publicly available at no cost, providing researchers, policymakers, and the public with an up-to-date picture of how vulnerable families are faring.

“I could teach an entire class at the Ford School on the U.S. Senate election in Michigan,” said Professor Rusty Hills in a Detroit Free Press op-ed.

Although he may not be focusing solely on Michigan’s Senate election this fall, he will be teaching PubPol 683, a masterclass in political campaigning.

Students can expect to learn how well-planned and effectively executed political campaigns can lead to election victories and facilitate successful governance.

In a project that aims to promote public awareness and understanding of food hardship, U-M will collect monthly data on food insufficiency from a national sample of U.S. households and release quarterly issue briefs tracking the overall rate of food insufficiency and rates for key subgroups, such as households with children and households with seniors. With funding from the of Michigan Strategic Initiative Fund, U-M will make the underlying microdata publicly available at no cost to users, giving researchers and the public a continued, up-to-date picture of how vulnerable families are faring.
