🎶 Come sing with us!

This Sunday, October 18, internationally recognized singer, composer and community songleader Elise Witt will lead a FREE Community Sing at Lawrence University.

No audition. No formal singing experience. Just an open invitation to teens and adults who want to experience the joy of making music together.

Expect accessible songs, improvisation, creativity and plenty of connection — all inspired by Elise’s guiding belief: “We Are All Born Singing.”

The Lawrence Choirs gave their first concert of the season this past Friday with a colorful program including a world premiere by guest conductor and composer, Dr. Coreen Duffy. It is always wonderful to hear the power of collective human voices ring through the Chapel during these choir concerts, celebrating the artistry and talents of our musicians. The performance finished with a large work bringing all three choirs together on stage, led by Dr. Duffy.

Last week, we were lucky enough to have guest composer, Sheila Silver on campus. Students and faculty celebrated Ms. Silver’s 80th birthday with a beautiful recital of her works in the Chapel, including a solo piano piece, several incredible songs, and two splendid chamber pieces. The audience was on stage for an intimate setting, and so many people came that we had to pull out more chairs and set up an additional row.

Mauriah Donegan Kraker and guest artist Nat Evans gave a beautiful performance last Friday. Esch-Hurvis was lit up by stark lighting and filled with music bringing sounds of grasslands together with recorded and live instrumentation into a visceral sound world. Artistic works like this are what make Lawrence such a special and unique place for music, dance and all sorts of artistic expression.

At the beginning of term, our incredible Music Librarian, Chandler Hall, and fantastic Archivist, Hannah Hacker-Snyder, showed students how to bind their own pamphlets in the Con basement. It was a great way to start the term, and it was wonderful to have the folks from the Seeley G Mudd Library and Lawrence University Archives over at the Con.
