We couldn't be more proud of Devine, our Umoja Grad! Read her Q&A below, and be inspired by her words and story.
Q: How did the Umoja Program impact your college experience?
A: Representation matters, so when I discovered that the UMOJA program was coming to the Cabrillo campus, it excited me. Being connected to the black diaspora finally gave me a sense of community on campus.
Q: What are you most excited about for the future?
A: I feel very equipped to join the workforce; with six degrees, multiple certificates, leadership training, and my role as a Student trustee I know that my holistic approach to business will be a valuable asset at this time in my career.
Q: What will you take from Cabrillo College for the rest of your life?
A: You have to love your environment when you are learning. Cabrillo is Such a beautiful Campus. Nearing the end of my time there as a full-time student, I will miss the artist-in-residence in the Redwoods vibe.
Q: What advice do you have for incoming students?
A: Your projects don't have to be perfect, just get your work in on time. You are in school to receive feedback even though it feels uncomfortable. Never be afraid to ask for help before you feel like drowning. If you feel a little crazy then you're doing it right (that's from my sister) And the most important thing that I can share is to talk to your professors; they all want the best for you.
