I kind of feel like I've been royally dissed here. Earlier in the week I had a phone convo with one of the producers for this show, and thought I was going to be part of it. In which case I would have been really excited! But now the promo has been published and my name is nowhere to be found, so I guess that means I've been dropped from the program??? No word from said producer, so I'm left hanging in the wind. Maybe they ditched me because I can't be in San Francisco at 9 a.m. on Monday morning, despite the fact that they said it would be no problem to participate remotely? Or is it the bias against the kinds of organisms I've helped Deep Look with over the years? Or am I not as charming as I think I am? Dunno, because nobody has bothered to tell me!

However, giving the producer(s) the benefit of the doubt and hoping that they'll let me know whether or not they want me and will treat me with some decency, I'll promote this thing anyways. So tune in if you want, and maybe you'll get to hear me and call in with questions?

Based on how this has come down so far, I'm not impressed with the way Forum handles things. But Deep Look is fantastic even when I'm not involved.

Plant Restoration Internship Opportunity
UC Santa Cruz Fort Ord Natural Reserve
Flexible schedule, starts September 26!

We are starting a large restoration project at UCSC FONR, collecting seeds and growing rare plants for restoration on reserve land in Marina, California. If you are interested in restoration, greenhouse work, botany, or endangered plant species; this internship is for you! This will be a fun combination of field and greenhouse work.

Experience is appreciated, but not necessary!

Internship will take place in Marina, CA (transportation provided) and at UC Santa Cruz Greenhouses (main campus and coastal biology campus). Approximately 6 hours per week commitment is required. Scheduling will be determined by applicant availability.

To apply: contact Field Manager Joe Miller [email protected] and cc Restoration Steward Brett Bell [email protected]. Your email should include relevant coursework, internships, and a brief summary of your interest in the work. Please include a copy of your class schedule and availability.

Course credit will be provided though the UCSC ENVS Internship Office. Availability and previous experience determine selection. UCSC Fort Ord Natural Reserve in Marina, Ca. which is about 45 minutes - 1 hour drive from UCSC Campus. Carpooling in a reserve vehicle is available. All UCSC Fort Ord Natural Reserve internships require teamwork and communication. There is potential for exposure to poison oak, snakes, weather, and insects. Students from other colleges and universities are welcome, course credit may vary.
