This past Friday, we came together as a campus to celebrate our mid-year graduates. Over lunch we toasted the accomplishments of the 15 new additions to the global alumni network.

Our grads were honored in a festive ceremony with remarks from Regional Dean Jamie Jones Miller, Associate Dean & Campus Administrator Ronna Halbgewachs, EdD, MBA, MA, and Director of Student Services Paul Nooney, Jr.

Congratulations to our class of December '25 — we can't wait to see what you achieve next!

The career path of William Claster has led him across continents and through the complementary disciplines of mathematics, data science, and artificial intelligence. With decades of teaching and research experience in both the U.S. and Japan, Dr. Claster now serves as associate program director for the Multidisciplinary Graduate Engineering Programs at our campus.

Along with his teaching schedule, he leads an agentic AI research lab that brings students from Northeastern's Arlington and Miami campuses together. The group was launched after DevFest DC attracted students with shared interests in the technology, and Dr. Claster has a roadmap in mind for the group's trajectory.

“We’re building a collaborative research community in what is still a very new field,” he told writer Daniel Cohen. “The goal is to move from learning to build AI agents to ultimately producing publishable research.”

Our campus cultivates a strong connection to our city and region, and one of the ways this presents is a tradition of community service. As we head into the giving season, we're looking back at some of our outreach events in 2025.

In October, our annual food drive collected donations for the food pantry at Saint George's Church. Paul Nooney, Jr. (Director of Student Services) and Will Mathews (Campus Operations Manager) dropped off the food with the Reverend Dr. Karen J. Ekholm, Associate Rector at Saint George's.

In September, the faith-based student interest group Northeasternberg volunteered at a Falls Prevention Event hosted by The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. The students who participated were group leaders Jamin Yang (MS in Information Systems) and Lauren Yeom (MS in Applied Quantitative Methods & Social Analysis), and members Anusha Kolusu (MPS in Analytics), Sai puja tanmayi Srivillibhutturu (MPS in Analytics), Feixiang Gao (MS in Software Engineering Systems), and Chengkun Liao (MS in Information Systems).

In April, the Northeasternberg group volunteered at Sakura Matsuri, the famous Washington D.C. street festival celebrating Japanese culture. The students were spread out amongst different stations, including the Matsuri Market and the Children's Corner (where Jamin got into the spirit teaching origami to the kids!).

If you're a student with an idea for a community project—or a community group looking to connect—we're always excited to hear from you!

Out today: Regional Dean Jamie Jones Miller is featured on The Unredacted Resume, a new podcast from INSA (Intelligence and National Security Alliance). In this episode, Dean Miller and Murshed Chowdhury (Founder and CEO of Tech Duels and Partner at Rapid Talent Group) speak with host Lindy Kyzer about the NatSec job market.

This conversation is a wealth of practical, apply-it-today takeaways for job hunters, including:

🎯 Keep a consistent commitment to avoid burnout and maximize ROI: Spend 2-4 hours daily on targeted activities, and avoid sporadic 8-hour marathons that will exhaust your resolve.

🔍 Vet your recruiters like you'd vet a lawyer: Ask tough questions like, how long have they worked with clients? What's their specialty? How many people have they placed? A good recruiter becomes like a part-time career counselor.

🤝 Be a meticulous networker: Follow up with people you meet at events within a day or two. If you connect with someone for an informational interview, always give them an update when you land your next position. When you're meeting new people, treat everyone as a valuable resource. Brushing past someone might cost you the introduction they could have made.

💡 An identity crisis is normal for those leaving the public sector: Transitioning from federal service means redefining "who am I?" beyond a specific mission. Remember that your skills and your insider perspective are gold in adjacent industries.

You can find the episode today on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and other podcast apps, or listen from your browser:

Lindy Kyzer is joined by Murshed Chowdhury and Jamie Jones Miller to discuss what it takes to stand out in the intelligence job market. The conversation covers recruiter relationships, mindset shifts, and practical steps for finding the right fit.

Northeastern University has a longstanding commitment to supporting military servicemembers, veterans, and family members on their paths to further education. And with our location in the nation's capital, the Arlington campus is a natural fit for many of these students.

This summer, Emily Mazzola, M.Ed hit the road to visit a number of military-specific education fairs (and brought along a mascot for the ride!).

If you missed us on site, we'd love to connect with you at our monthly Zoom call. Along with academic information about our graduate and bachelor's completion programs, our team will also share details of scholarships, resources, and support systems specific for military-affiliated students.

Yesterday at the Arlington campus, we began the school year by welcoming new students from the Khoury College of Computer Sciences, Northeastern University College of Engineering, and Northeastern University College of Social Sciences and Humanities. The new student orientation was a day full of information sessions about their new home, student services, a welcome from Dean and CEO Jamie Jones Miller, and much more. It ended with refreshments and activities on the rooftop overlooking the nation’s capital. Thank you to Director of Student Services Paul Nooney, Jr., for organizing the entire day, along with the operations team and everyone involved in making this a successful start for the new students. Here’s to a great school year!

Recently, the Northeastern Arlington campus was proud to host the Hiring Our Heroes' Corporate Fellowship Graduate ceremony. Dean Jamie Jones Miller welcomed graduates and sponsoring companies, recognizing the unique skillsets graduates contribute to the civilian workforce.

HoH Corporate Fellowships are innovative 12-week programs that offer transitioning service members professional training and practical experience in the civilian sector. The professional development provided during the program prepares fellows for a seamless transition into meaningful civilian careers.

Congratulations to the graduates, and thank you for allowing us to be a part of such a meaningful ceremony.
