The chapter at UTA was chartered in 1950 and became inactive in 2003. We are bringing it back! During World War I, head founder of Alpha Phi Omega, Frank Reed Horton (July 17, 1896 - August 28, 1966), vowed that if he made it out of the war alive, he would try to do his best to "help young people get the right start in life by holding up before them a 'standard of manhood' that would withstand the
test of time!" and more importantly to "help the nations of the world settle their disputes in a more sensible and legal manner than by war." After the war, he attended Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania. As a Scoutmaster, he found that the Scout Oath and Law were what he had been seeking - a standard of manhood that would withstand the test of time and a code of ideals created and accepted by some of the greatest leaders the world has ever known. As a senior at Lafayette College, response was good when he spoke to some of the men (from his fraternity Sigma Alpha Epsilon), with a Scouting background, about an organization that would strengthen men in high ideals, clean living, and an opportunity for Leadership experience and for Service to others. These men would join an organization based on the ideals of Scouting. Fourteen undergraduates signed as charter Members, and the Lafayette College Faculty approved the petition for recognition. On December 16, 1925, F.R. Horton conducted the Ritual Initiation and Alpha Phi Omega was born.
