Grab a treat and enjoy a little lively conversation about intriguing art forms and Texas talents.

This exhibition highlights artworks from the Charles T. Williams Memorial Collection. Considered to be one of the first significant modern sculptors in Texas, Williams was known for innovative abstract forms that veered away from the popular art styles of Realism and Regionalism that depicted the human experience in more life-like and easily recognizable ways during the early and mid-20th century. Among the collection are several of Williams’ contemporaries, including Roy Fridge, Jim Love, Gene Owens, and Ed Storms. Williams himself is featured in the UTA Public Art Collection, and his sculpture Terminal Trio stands in front of the north façade of the Fine Art Building.

Also on view are a series of paintings and prints from both historical and contemporary artists of Texas.

Academic Advisor Spotlight! 📣

Academic advisors have a very important role here in the College of Liberal Arts. They help students navigate degree plans, requirements, and even provide resources for academic success. Today's spotlight is on Eduardo Cardona, Academic Advisor in the Department of Art and Art History.

We had such a great time celebrating the grads, Maria Esswein, Trenton Williams and Ari Brielle on Friday! We also got to gift professor Yana Payusova a little something from the students to show appreciation for her and all that she did in the program. Payusova is off to Arizona after this semester, and we will miss her greatly. 🌱💜

We are thrilled to have acclaimed filmmaker and multidisciplinary artist Ja’Tovia Gary here at UTA for a lecture Monday, April 3rd at 1pm in FAB 148! ✨

Ja’Tovia Gary’s work, which spans across documentary, avante-grade video art, sculpture and installation, seeks to trouble notions of objectivity and neutrality in nonfiction storytelling by asserting a Black feminist subjectivity. Gary’s films and installations serve as reparative gestures for the distorted histories through which Black life is often viewed. Black sociality, familial bonds, the interiority of Black women and femmes, and the global efforts toward liberation often pull focus in Gary’s multivalent works.

The artist has exhibited at the Hammer Museum, The Museum of Modern Art, The Whitney Museum, among many other spaces. Gary has received fellowships from the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, Creative Capital, Field of Vision, and is 2022 Guggenheim Fellow.

We can’t wait for Gary’s talk Monday and hope to see you there!
