Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration 2026

UTA celebrated Indigenous Peoples Day by honoring the first permanent mural installed on campus and the four-year anniversary of the Land Acknowledgment Courtyard. Designed by Haley Greenfeather English, an artist of Red Lake and Turtle Mountain Ojibwe heritage, the mural was brought to life by Professor Carlos DonJuan and his UTA art students.

The celebration recognized Indigenous art, culture, and knowledge through artist remarks, a Native plant tour, a hands-on art activity, and a community gathering, honoring the significance of Indigenous traditions and the Courtyard’s ongoing legacy.

What happens when disaster strikes?

Students from across health-related degree programs, including athletic training, nursing, pharmacy studies, public health, health services and social work, came together for an interprofessional education (IPE) disaster simulation. Responding to a simulated tornado at a basketball game, students practiced assessing and triaging patients before transitioning to a community shelter scenario.

The experience challenged students to collaborate across disciplines, communicate effectively and address the complex medical, social, emotional and public health needs of individuals and families affected by a disaster.

By working together, future professionals are building the skills needed to provide coordinated, compassionate care when communities need it most.
