🍂 Ever wonder why leaves change color in the fall?
Here's the secret: the yellows and oranges were there all along. As the days get shorter, trees stop making chlorophyll, the pigment that makes leaves green. Once the green fades, the colors underneath finally get their moment. The reds and purples are made fresh by the tree in the fall.
Fun fact: the pigments behind those golden leaves are the same ones that make carrots and pumpkins orange. 🎃
What's your favorite fall color? Tell us in the comments! 👇

Did you just yawn? If so, you’re in good company.
Catching a yawn from someone else is one of the most familiar and least understood reflexes we have. Researchers believe it’s tied to empathy and social connection, which may be why you’re more likely to catch one from family and close friends than from a stranger. Even dogs have been shown to catch yawns from their owners.
Swipe through to see the science behind it. 👉

From the Lab to Real Life: Advancing the Fight Against Cancer Through Science

At the University of Texas at Arlington College of Science, teamwork across different fields, creative research, and support for new scientists are shaping the future of cancer research.

As an R1 research university, UT Arlington advances cancer research by applying biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and data science.

Researchers at UTA are learning more about cancer by studying how cancer cells survive, developing new ways to use radiation therapy, and analyzing complex biological data to guide future treatments.

Undergraduate and graduate students get hands-on research experience by working with faculty and building skills for careers in medicine, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and science.

The newest issue of Science Forward shows how the UTA College of Science turns research into real-world results and helps prepare the next generation of scientific leaders.

From the Lab to Real Life: How UTA College of Science Is Moving Cancer Research Forward Cancer is not just one disease. It is a group of diseases that begin when changes happen in our cells, genes, or biological systems. Because cancer is so complex, scientists from many fields need to work together...

Data is all around us, but it becomes truly valuable when it helps us discover new insights.

Data science is changing fields like healthcare, artificial intelligence, environmental science, finance, and advanced manufacturing. It helps us understand tough problems, spot new opportunities, and find solutions.

The latest Science Forward blog from The University of Texas at Arlington College of Science explores why data science matters for today’s discoveries. It also shows how UTA students are gaining the skills they need to thrive in a data-driven world.

UTA, a top research university, gives students a hands-on environment where data science goes beyond the classroom. Science students use math, statistics, programming, and analytics to tackle real-world problems in areas like biology, chemistry, environmental science, math, physics, and psychology.

This mix of fields prepares future scientists and problem solvers to turn information into insights and use those insights to make a real difference.

🔬 Innovate. Discover. Learn.

Why is data science important? Data science helps organizations uncover patterns, predict future outcomes and make evidence-based decisions. It drives innovation across healthcare, business, government, scientific research and technology.

Ever listen to a voicemail or video of yourself and immediately cringe?
You are definitely not alone. Inside your head, your voice sounds richer because the vibrations travel straight through your bones to your inner ear. A recording only captures the sound traveling through the air, leaving behind that built in warmth.

Join us for the first Career Lab of the Fall 2026 semester, focused on a skill every student needs today: AI literacy.

Presented by UTA Libraries, this session will help students learn to tell evidence-based information apart from misinformation, and to use AI thoughtfully and ethically in their research and coursework. It's the kind of skill that serves our graduates long after they've left campus, whether they're in a lab, a classroom, or a boardroom.

🗓️Mark your calendar: Wednesday, September 23, 12–1 PM, in SEIR 294.
