For Women's History Month 2024, the Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies program invites creative presentations and/or performances on the theme: Women in Pop CultHER. These creatives should celebrate and/or critique narratives about women in popular culture within recent years. Each slot will be 5-10 minutes (though shorter submissions will be considered), and will happen on Thursday, March 21st in University Center Rio Grande. If you have ideas about how women have rocked pop culture or have been further marginalized because of it (including along with other intersecting identities), we invite you to fill out this form https://forms.office.com/r/e9kJT3qxRr by Thursday, February 20, to be offered one of the presentation slots. Potential presenters will need to be available from 1-3 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, and will need to offer a 100-150-word description of what their presentation will entail. All questions can be directed to Dr. Dustin Harp at [email protected] or Mireya Contreras at [email protected] . Selected presenters will be notified by the end of February.

“About 1 in 4 individuals around the world will develop mental illness at some point in their lifetimes. Women are impacted at a higher rate than men, with 1 in 5 women experiencing a prevalent mental illness (eg, anxiety, depression) versus only 1 in 8 men.” (Perspectives on Global Women’s Mental Health, Psychiatric Times)
