Hi Mavericks,

Join the UT System's first systemwide donation drive competition, the UT Showdown Against Hunger, through Friday, Oct. 23rd.

• Why it matters: No Maverick should worry about basic necessities. By donating the most needed items to the Maverick Pantry, we can assist our UTA community and make a meaningful difference.

• What to give: Donate unexpired, non-perishable food, including canned proteins, pasta, rice, spices, and shelf-stable beverages. New, unused, and unopened hygiene and personal care items also count. Open or expired products will not be accepted.

• Where to donate: Find bins at the following locations around campus:
- The main office for Criminology & Criminal Justice (UH 360)
- Center for Continuing Education & Workforce Development
- Military and Veteran Services
- Residence halls and apartments
- Maverick Pantry
- University Center Leadership Center
- Fraternity & Sorority Life Center
- Maverick Activities Center

• Get support: UTA faculty, staff, and students can get essentials at no cost from Maverick Pantry. Appointments are required. Contact [email protected] or 817-272-4201 with questions.

Best,
Your CRCJ Academic Advising Team

UTA kicked off CRCJ Week this morning with a presentation by the Arlington Police Department on the multi-year investigation of the Kiccdoe street gang responsible for at least 180 crimes recorded since January 2022.

Kiccdoe, originating on the east side of Arlington, drew FBI involvement after a gang member was shot and killed on the campus of an Arlington high school in April 2024.

A joint operation in which law enforcement officers executed search warrants in Arlington, Dallas, Fort Worth, Grand Prairie, Mansfield, and Forney led to the arrest and conviction of 21 members of the gang, in part because of the gang’s active Instagram postings.

CRCJ at UTA's very own Dr. Anne Wingert was recently featured in Heritage, the official magazine of Sam Houston State University!

Through her research, Wingert aims to uncover findings that will help service practitioners better support individuals affected by early-life trauma.

Congratulations to Dr. Wingert, and Mav Up!

CRCJ will be hosting CRCJ Week — a series of speakers coming to campus to talk with students during class and around lunch time — starting on September 28th. The week will culminate in a special, all-day event: Wrongful Conviction Day on Friday, October 2nd.

Attached is the flyer for Wrongful Conviction Day, which we expect a big external audience to attend. The event is free, and we’re looking to get the word out!

Here’s the link to when UNT hosted this event last year:

And here’s a KERA story of Wrongful Conviction Day in general, from 2024.
