We asked our Quest for Community scholars one more question: What is your role in your community?

After three weeks of learning, discussion and service, Arlington ISD juniors and seniors reflected on what it means to take an active role in the communities they are part of.

As Knowledge for Freedom Scholars at UTA, these students explored philosophy, civic life and community while considering not only the world around them, but the part they can play in shaping it.

Now, hear how they see their role.

How do challenging conversations change when counseling happens virtually?

New research from UTA Communication faculty Dr. Karishma Chatterjee and Dr. Damla Ricks examines how counselors navigate communication challenges during telehealth interactions.

Their findings highlight the importance of body language, privacy, distractions, and understanding the capabilities and limitations of technology when working with clients virtually.

What does community mean to you?

For Arlington ISD students participating in UTA’s Quest for Community, that question became something to explore both in the classroom and through service.
Quest for Community, a Knowledge for Freedom program at The University of Texas at Arlington, brings together high school juniors and seniors to explore big questions about community, civic life and their role within it.

Through discussion, learning and hands-on service, these scholars had the opportunity to think more deeply about the communities around them—and how they can contribute to them.

Hear what they had to say about community and the impact of putting those ideas into action.

As AI changes the workplace, what skills will continue to matter?

UTA English Assistant Professor and Technical Writing Coordinator Dr. Amy Hodges recently joined NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth to discuss how artificial intelligence is affecting the job market for Texas college graduates.

Drawing on new research from the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, Hodges emphasized the importance of what she describes as durable skills — including the ability to work alongside AI while bringing human judgment, responsibility and ethical oversight to its use. Those are skills the humanities and social sciences have long helped students develop.

As technology continues to reshape the workplace, Hodges' perspective highlights an important role for liberal arts education: preparing graduates not simply to use emerging tools, but to think critically about how and why they should be used.
