In case you missed it, UNC Asheville is expanding access to affordable college through Access Asheville! 💙

Starting in Fall 2027, eligible North Carolina families earning $100,000 or less annually will have remaining tuition and mandatory fees COVERED after grants and scholarships are applied. Eligible students from Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia will have tuition and fees reduced to $10,000 per academic year.

Buncombe County students, this one’s for you. 🐾

UNC Asheville has established AVL Scholars, a new merit-based scholarship for eligible public high school students in Buncombe County entering UNC Asheville in Fall 2027.

Eligible students with a weighted high school GPA of 3.3 or higher will receive a scholarship covering the full cost of tuition and mandatory fees, a minimum savings of $7,628 per year.

It’s one more way Asheville’s Hometown University is investing in the students and families who call this community home.

Choosing a college is a big decision for students and their families. Affordability matters, too. 🐾

Starting Fall 2027, Access Asheville’s income eligibility threshold is increasing from $90,000 to $100,000 AGI, giving more North Carolina families tuition and mandatory fee coverage after applicable grants and scholarships.

Eligible students from Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia can also have tuition and mandatory fees reduced to $10,000.

Welcome home, Bulldogs! 🐾

Weeks of Welcome brought UNC Asheville to life as students moved in, made new connections, and kicked off the 2026–27 academic year.

Across 42 campus-wide events, 1,389 unique students attended at least one Weeks of Welcome event, with 7,708 total attendees throughout the festivities. And Rockypalooza alone brought out 1,188 Bulldogs! 💙

Two years after Hurricane Helene, storytelling remains an important part of documenting its impact on Western North Carolina.

In 2025, Mass Communication at UNC Asheville students Gressa Cedergren ’26, Alex Bradley, Dylan Machi, Kennedy Noe '25, and Ashlyn Roberts '26. produced a documentary focused on the experience of Mass Communication Professor Don Diefenbach during Hurricane Helene and its aftermath.

Supported by Associate Professor Anne Slatton, the project gave students an opportunity to use their storytelling and production skills to document a firsthand account and preserve an important piece of UNC Asheville’s history.

We’re sharing a preview of their work today in recognition of the two-year anniversary of Hurricane Helene. Thank you to Gressa, Alex, Dylan, Kennedy, and Ashlyn for their work, Anne for her support, and Don for sharing his story.
