Supply Chain Internships

Looking for a unique summer internship where you’ll learn about community-based food systems and help build local food value chains between local farmers and regional, institutional markets?

Join us for CEFS’ new 9-week (May 24-July 23, 2021) PAID summer Supply Chain Internship. Participants will work with one of three local food intermediaries (Foothills Food Hub, Sandhills AgInnovation Center, and Working Landscapes) and N.C. Cooperative Extension to increase local food procurement in county-based senior food services. This internship also includes a week-long tour of diverse agroecosystems across the state.
This is a great opportunity for students to learn about county-based senior food services, rural farming systems, food council networks, and national local food metrics. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or professional degree program at any North Carolina university, college, or community college.

Internship Components
Activities will be organized into four main program elements including:

1.
Introductory “Diverse Communities and Agriculture across NC” Tour: A 4-day tour across various agroecosystems and communities throughout NC. This tour is important for students to understand the unique agricultural challenges facing diverse producers and communities across NC. *This tour is tentatively scheduled to happen in person, May 26-29, 2021. Due to COVID concerns and precautions we will reassess closer to the date and determine if a virtual option is needed.
2.
Mentorship and hands-on job training: Each student will be matched with a host site and mentor. Mentors will oversee the student on a day-to-day basis, as well as mentor the student in a specific summer project.
3.
Professional skills development and agriculture career exploration: All students will participate in professional development activities throughout the summer. These professional development activities will likely include: leadership training, racial equity, understanding agriculture career pathways, and networking opportunities.
4.
Professional presentation opportunity: Students will be required to give a professional presentation of their summer project and experiences at the conclusion of the internship.

Applications are due March 12, 2021.

Happy Monday, HWP! Remember that your submissions to the Art For Our Times Project are due by March 15th. Check out the details below!

This is an announcement for the continuation of the Art For Our Times Project. The purpose of the Art For Our Times Project is to invite engagement with art as a response to our current times, highlighting multiple voices and modalities to create shared experiences that deepen the community's examination of the year's theme (racial justice, the elections and the pandemic).

The Art for Our Times Project this spring in two modalities:

Arts For Our Times Week -- April 3-10, highlighting works of students, faculty and staff, and other projects that support the week's activities

Arts For Our Times Features -- A series of events occurring throughout the semester, February-April, generally already planned or created by you or a community partner

This is your invitation to submit a proposal.

Art For Our Times Week (April 3-10) will offer opportunities in digital/virtual, and site-based work. The plan is to feature at least one synchronous event each day (15-60 minutes of content), in addition to multiple asynchronous opportunities. We encourage proposals that engage with different modalities and a range of content from works of resistance and challenge, to works of contemplation and restoration. We especially welcome interdisciplinary collaborations between student organizations, classes, departments, and community. Use this link to submit a proposal.

Art For Our Times Features are events that are organized by you or by our community partners and illuminate the themes and purpose of the project. Generally, these events are already in the works, and we would like the opportunity to highlight them! To propose your event for the Art For our Times Features calendar (February-April), please email Karin Peterson and Jessica Park .

It is our hope that the Arts For Our Times Project gives our community a context for reflecting on and engaging with the themes and that it also offers a different modality for reckoning with the changes occurring in our lives in this moment.

Possible formats:
Documents of existing or ongoing work (digital photographs, slideshows, film, videos, recordings)
Instagram or other social media projects
Virtual galleries or other web projects
Augmented reality projects
Panel discussions or tours
Virtual Readings or performances (live or previously recorded)
Site-based work, such as murals or works with interactive components (manageable within socially distanced guidelines)
Performances or other recorded content that could be made available at specific campus locations to be accessed through augmented reality or QR codes.
Live events with appropriate social distance protocols

Submissions will be considered on a rolling basis for the Arts for Our Times Features, and through March 15 for the Arts for Our Times Week.

Arts for Our Times events will be announced on our website.

Volunteer -- we invite you to serve on the Arts for Our Times committee or to offer your support during specific events. Please email Karin Peterson.
