"It's not about partisanship, it's about participating in America."

That's how CMC President Matt Gianneschi describes the college's new civics initiative. Backed by a three-year, $750,000 federal grant, the effort reaches all 11 CMC campuses and is built for the wider community, not just students. It includes nonpartisan community book conversations, free civics training for K-12 and college educators through the National Constitution Center, and student trips to the Colorado and U.S. Capitols to meet lawmakers.

"Our understanding of civics may be one of the things that proves most critical for our population — regardless of political preferences," Gianneschi said.

CMC was well represented at the Western Slope College Fair. High school students and parents learned about degree programs and CTE (Career Technical Education) such as Multi-Occupational Trades, HVAC (w R & H Mechanical), Pharmacy Technician, Radiologic Technology, Certified Nurse Aid, Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy, Ski Area Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Fire Science, Carpentry, Welding, and more. Thanks to the Aspen School District for hosting, and all the volunteers that made this event possible. CMC…where learning and college hit differently.

Acclaimed biographer Walter Isaacson, constitutional scholar Robert P. George, and National Constitution Center Chief Content and Learning Officer Julie Silverbrook will bring the personalities, debates, and ideas behind the U.S. Constitution to life through storytelling, conversation, and a little humor.
