TBS students Meredith Chaput, Nick Whitticar, and Charlotte Yang were presented their John J. Kopchick Fellowship Awards at last weekend's joint MCB/TBS retreat. The awards provide $15,000 toward translational research and off-campus internships. Fourteen Ohio University students and faculty members received funding, totaling $118,021, for their health and medical research from the John J. Kopchick Awards.
"Over the last year, the Research Division also has continued efforts to support the Translational Biomedical Sciences doctoral program, which launched in 2014. The division recently completed and received approval for a plan to use royalties from University technology commercialization licenses to create quasi-endowments that will provide long-term financial support for the program."

Over the last year, OHIO has made notable progress on major research, scholarship and creative activity goals, and also successfully responded to immediate needs brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
All students registered for fall semester classes can pick up their free OHIO branded masks, hand sanitizer, and digital thermometer with their student I.D. on the 4th floor of Baker center, at the help desk!

Last weekend was the joint MCB-TBS retreat where students presented their research through posters and scientific talks. TBS students William Koch, Cody Criss, and Elizabeth Jensen were also presented their John J. Kopchick Research Fellowship Awards. Congratulations!

Dallin Tavoian is a PhD candidate in Ohio University’s Translational Biomedical Sciences program. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training/Exercise Science from Southern Utah University and his Master of Science, Athletic Training from Ohio University. Tavoian has an actively enrolling study known as the DART study: Exercise Strategies to Improve Physical Function in Older Adults. To learn more about his research, check out the following articles:

Congratulations to #OhioTBS faculty member Dr. Craig Nunemaker for receiving a grant of $453,000 from the National Institutes of Health! The grant was for his project entitled, “Reducing glycolytic activity to restore normal islet glucose sensing in early type 2 diabetes."

DO/PhD student, Ian Ackers, mentored by Ramiro Malgor, MD and Amir Farnoud PhD, recently defended his dissertation entitled "Characterization of Wnt Signaling in Athersclerosis" on March 20th, 2019. Ian is the first #OhioTBS student to defend. Congratulations Dr. Ackers!
Quyen Luong, DO/PhD student recently gave an oral presentation titled "Adipocyte Subpopulations Mediate Obesity-Associated Inflammation in Adipose Tissues" at the Endocrine Society 101st Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA!
Quyen is mentored by #OhioTBS Faculty Member Dr. Kevin Lee.
