The University of Georgia Russian Flagship Program is an innovative program of language instruction that offers highly-motivated students of any major the opportunity to reach a professional level of competence in Russian by graduation. The goal of the program is to graduate students who will take their place among the next generation of global professionals, commanding a professional level of competence in Russian.
The UGA Russian Flagship program is part of The Language Flagship, a groundbreaking national initiative designed to enable American undergraduates to become global professionals and world leaders in their chosen fields.
UGA is one of only six universities in the United States that offers a Russian Flagship Program. These programs work in partnership with American Councils for International Education: ACTR/ACCELS, which runs the overseas programs.
With a network of federally funded programs in Russian, Portuguese, Chinese, and other strategic languages, The Language Flagship facilitates students’ development of bilingual and bicultural competencies through a combination of domestic and overseas programs. This includes not only accelerated and specialized language learning, but also experiences such as professionally oriented internships and direct enrollment in local university courses, which fully immerse students in the target language culture.
