Jasmine Lastery-Butler, '11, walked in the footsteps of of her family by getting her undergraduate degree at OHIO. She currently serves as district director in U.S. Rep. Shontel Brown's office, and is a member of the Voinovich School Advisory Board. ⭐️

She credits the experiences she had at OHIO with preparing her for her career and wants to give back to current students. Her seat on the Advisory Board gives her a pathway to help students transition into public service careers.

“The opportunities at Ohio University allowed me to branch off in different ways that I didn’t realize until later in life. The people that I met along the way are part of my path here. Without that experience, I wouldn’t have been as confident doing the work that I’m doing.”

A deep connection to Southeast Ohio and nostalgia brought Joe Brehm to OHIO for the Master of Science in Environmental Studies program. Now, he is the Co-CEO at Rural Action.

In his current role, he thrives on the variety of each day, whether he is focused on fundraising strategy or visiting his programs' hands-on forestry work in the field.

"If I could give any advice to students, it would be to trust that your thoughts, instincts and passions are of the utmost importance to the world ... When you're at the beginning of a career, it’s difficult to have confidence that your perspective matters, but you should pursue those interests relentlessly, it will take you somewhere worth going."

The Voinovich Academy for Excellence in Public Service is celebrating its 10th year. 🎉

The academy, a Dublin-based branch of the Voinovich School, has consistently bolstered the careers of individuals in the state's public and nonprofit sectors through its range of programs.

“The bottom line is, our mission is to help build leadership capacity for those in public service. When they finish the training, we want them to walk away with tools they can use in their agencies. That’s really valuable.” — Jay Johnson, Voinovich Academy Director
