Over the next month, the UGA Mobile App will undergo upgrades to its look and controllability. The first phase was completed in April, with the ability to arrange icons into customizable categories. The second phase is estimated to occur in May and June to improve the app’s aesthetic with UGA-branded colors and affiliated photos. EITS Network Infrastructure has completed wireless network redesigns and refreshes in several key campus buildings, with more wireless updates by the end of May. These refreshes replace aged and under-performing equipment to provide a better end-user experience. These building refreshes and redesigns are funded by the Student Technology Fee, a fee that helps fund a variety of facilities and services on campus. Congrats to our hard-working Help Desk for high customer satisfaction! EITS continued to improve in customer satisfaction and ticket handling times in 2020. Our staff responded to more than 111K incidents through the year and as a whole, scored 93% or better for all customer ratings. Tax season is a prime time for phishing scams. Watch out for this scam targeting students, faculty and staff with .edu addresses.

The IRS has received complaints about the impersonation scam in recent weeks from people with email addresses ending in ".edu." The emails display the IRS logo and use subject lines such as "Tax Refund Payment" or "Recalculation of your tax refund payment" and asks to click a link and submit a form to claim their refund.

Lora Yordanova, a student consultant at the MLC, is one of this year's top 75 student employees. Congrats Lora! Here's what her nominating supervisor, Steven Barrow, had to say about Lora:

I am nominating Lora for the employee of the year because:
At the MLC, the 3rd floor student consultants manage tech lending program, a partnership program between EITS and the Libraries to checkout laptops, cameras, and accessories to students. We have been able to continue offering this service to students throughout the pandemic thanks in part to Lora's efforts and training. Lora was most helpful in the planning phases of our process changes for the tech lending program. We wanted to sanitize equipment after each patron returned the equipment but didn't have the desk space designed to safely isolate the consultant while they sanitized equipment without causing cross contamination. Lora was on site helping design the sanitation station workspace. Along with the cleaning procedures we implemented a request system with the checkout application. Lora helped test the processes and identified faults and helped solve system side problems with the request system. Then once we returned for the semester she has been training other student consultants to use the checkout system and how to navigate the workspace to maintain a sanitary socially isolated work environment. I have been most impressed with her ability to train her fellow employees. She has gone above and beyond the normal duties of the MLC Student Consultant requirements and made the last year much easier for me, her fellow workers, and the atmosphere at the MLC.

She has been promoted to a Lead Student Consultant this spring in recognition of her efforts and been chosen as one of the top 75 Student Employees of the year.
