EFNEP is federally funded and offered nationwide. The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) is funded by the USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture and is offered nationwide. The program’s mission is to improve the nutritional health of vulnerable populations. EFNEP fulfills this purpose by bringing together federal, state, and local resources and utilizing the vast grassroots infrastructure of Cooperative Extension within the Land-Grant University System. EFNEP educators are members of the communities they serve, as research has proven their superior abilities to relate to and communicate with participants. EFNEP focuses on four core areas - diet quality and physical activity, food resource management, household food safety, and food security - to help families achieve nutritionally sound diets.
