The UGA Dance Department had the pleasure of having Ronnie RJ Anderson as a student from Fall 2012 until Spring of 2018. During his time at UGA, he received a Bachelor of Advertising with a Minor in Dance. Ronnie exceeded the expectations of a dance minor during his time in the department. He was a dancer, choreographer, teacher, stage hand, and marketing designer. These are just some of the ways Ronnie devoted his life to department.
While at UGA, Ronnie danced in the Young Choreographers Series, Spring Dance Concert, CORE Contemporary and Aerial dance company, as well as CADE:NCE Contemporary African Dance Ensemble: New Conscious Exploration, getting to represent the department in NYC, Jamaica, and many ACDA Festivals throughout the Southeast. In the Summer of 2017, Ronnie attended the American Dance Festival 6 Week School & Intensive at Duke University where he continued to develop his artistry.
After graduation, Ronnie continued his professional dance career by receiving contracts with Staibdance, Black Nativity, Dance Canvas, Hayiya Dance Theatre, and Ballethnic. He was an established dance educator of more than 15 years teaching for many studios around the state of Georgia. Ronnie taught at East Athens Educational Dance Center serving hundreds of students for 8 years before stepping into his most recent role of Program Specialist in August of 2019. Ronnie was a devout Christian, dancing and choreographing many full-length productions for his home church Convenient Life Cathedral. Additionally, he brought his passion to Athens where he helped develop a dance ministry at Timothy Baptist Church.
Ronnie Anderson embodied the definition of a UGA Bulldog in how he supported freshman to senior dancers throughout their college journey. Ronnie was an anchor in our close knit dance community and served as family to all. The University of Georgia Dance Department will forever remember Ronnie RJ Anderson as the passionate, confident, and caring person. He exuded light, love, and joy with his many talents.
