The College of Pharmacy is saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. William J. “Bill” Spruill, ’74, Professor Emeritus, who served the college for more than 30 years. A faculty member in CAP, Dr. Spruill was recognized nationally for his work in outcomes, therapeutics and pharmacokinetics. The ultimate compliment came from students who offered high praise for Dr. Spruill throughout his career. Arrangements are available for viewing here: https://www.lordandstephens.com/notices/WilliamBill-Spruill. Memorial gifts may be made to the UGA College of Pharmacy’s Spruill-Wade-Cobb Fund (https://gail.uga.edu/commit?search=71618003&desonly=1) or the Lewy Body Dementia Association.

Take Back Day

National Drug Take Back Day, sponsored by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency is this Saturday, April 27, from 10 am - 2 pm. Local law enforcement will provide a safe, convenient and responsible way to dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs. The majority of teenagers abusing prescription drugs get them from the home medicine cabinet. Using pharmaceutical drugs without a prescription or a doctor’s supervision can lead to accidental poisoning, overdose and abuse. Last year's event collected 900,000 pounds of unused or expired prescription medication! For drop off locations in your area, see https://takebackday.dea.gov/.

In Athens, drop off locations include:
Piedmont Athens Regional, Talmadge Two entrance
1199 Prince Ave., Athens, 30606

55 Carlton Street, Athens, GA 30602

2142 W. Broad St. Bldg. 200, Athens, GA 30606

SNPhA and APhA have collaborated to create UGA COP's first World Immunization Week (WIW) - and it's this week! WIW is a global public health campaign to raise awareness and increase rates of immunization against vaccine-preventable diseases around the world. Immunization saves millions of lives every year and is widely recognized as one of the world’s most successful and cost-effective health interventions. Yet, there are still nearly 20 million unvaccinated and under-vaccinated children in the world today. The two groups are hosting events all week focused on the importance of vaccination, and the week will culminate with a fundraiser for [email protected]. Contact: Diane Ayuninjam ([email protected]) or see the attached flyer. Pictured: SNPhA and APhA reps with a WIW banner!
