The doctoral school psychology program at UGA is designed to produce clinically skilled scientists who, whether engaged in scholarship or service, perform all of their duties in a manner consistent with accepted scientific principles and competencies. Principles of theory, science, and practice represent the three core competencies that are acquired by students during their program of study. These core competencies are developed by students through their explication in four major “content” areas: Child and adolescent development & systems, abnormal psychology, appraisal, and intervention/consultation. Content area knowledge and competencies are systematically developed through participation in coursework, practica, seminar, research team, and informal interactions with faculty, clients, supervisors, colleagues in other disciplines and other students.”

This week some the ArdoinLab members had a reunion. Everyone is doing great, despite Scott throwing darts (questions) at them during the gathering. Fun fact, in August four of them are going to be working together. They just could not handle being apart from each other. Lilly Wagner also joined us, but her little ones insisted on going to sleep.

Congratulations to Joshua Mellott, our 2019 winner of the Hynd Award for Excellence. This award was made possible by the generous support of Dr. George Hynd, who was affiliated with the SPY program while on faculty at UGA (1979-2003). This award, which is given annually in the amount of $500, goes to the School Psychology student who embodies the ideals of the School Psychology Program. The ideal doctoral student is defined by their scholarly pursuit of knowledge and competencies in research and practice. The ideal doctoral student also exemplifies collegiality: This student makes everyone around them better just by knowing and interacting with them. The winner of the Hynd award is selected on the basis of both faculty and student nominations. Congrats, Josh!

Congratulation to our very own Dr. Roy Martin who was featured last night at the Athens' Symphony Fall Pop Concert. As opposed to his exceptional violin playing, last night Roy outstanding voice was featured. In the second half of the show he sang songs of Johnny Mercer either solo or with Heather Pillsbury. Roy is truly a man of many talents.
