Thanks to a $137,000 grant to the UGA Special Collections Libraries, more than 4,500 Georgians' stories have been identified and can now be discovered by their families, despite enslavement.

During the "Finding Their Names" project, archivists and students searched through 89 collections of documents from the Colonial period through the Civil War to trace the names, places, and events of people who were enslaved. The documents have been digitized and made available via the Digital Library of Georgia, and the dataset has been shared with Enslaved.org, allowing future generations to trace their family history.

You can read more about the project on our website: https://www.libs.uga.edu/news/finding-their-names-project-identifies-stories-4500-enslaved-georgians
