UGA will lead the new Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Peanut, a U.S. Department of State program that brings together U.S. and international scientists to make peanut farming more productive, profitable and safe.

The award is for up to five years, with an initial obligation of $9 million for the first year funded through a cooperative agreement with the State Department’s Bureau of Disaster and Humanitarian Response.

Investment advice is only a scroll away, but new research from the UGA College of Family and Consumer Sciences suggests social media may leave some investors feeling more knowledgeable than they actually are.

The researchers found that people who relied on social media to guide their investment decisions felt very confident in their investment knowledge. However, they struggled to answer basic questions about investment-related topics. In contrast, people who obtained their investment information from traditional media, such as newspapers, magazines, television, and radio, not only felt knowledgeable about investing but also demonstrated a stronger understanding of the subject.

As a Dietetics student, Claire helps manage the nutrition that keeps Georgia athletes going strong. This year, she helped test hydration needs among football players, pack supplies to keep them hydrated, and manages the fueling station and hydration logistics on game days.

The UGA Institute for Disaster Management (IDM) has been awarded $3.735M to help harden rural hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and in-patient hospice in Georgia against disasters.

This IDM-led project is one of nearly 30 initiatives funded through GREAT Health to strengthen rural healthcare throughout the state. Named the Rural Healthcare Facility Resilience Program, the initiative addresses one of the most difficult decisions rural healthcare facilities face during disasters: Will they shelter in place or evacuate?
