On April 25, 2019 in the early morning hours a F3 Tornado devastated the town of Ruston, Louisiana including the Alpha Gamma Rho house at Louisiana Tech University (Beta Pi Chapter). We are thankful that there were no injuries to brothers, but the damage to the AGR house has rendered it unlivable.

If urged to do so, follow the link below to the GoFundMe page supporting the Beta Pi Chapter as they begin to recover.

Founders Day update:

If you are planning on coming early this weekend, we will have brothers at the house during the day Friday and Saturday for you to be able to check in early to hopefully eliminate some of the line at the door. We will give you a wristband signifying that you have already signed in.

Also, there will be parking available in the North Campus deck for you to park, and it is a short five minute walk from Hedges. Again, we are looking forward to this weekend and hope to see you there!

I have attached the link below in case you haven’t bought a ticket yet.

Brothers,
My name is J.W. Gentry. I am currently serving the second half of my time as VNR recruitment.
As summer approaches, we are looking for help in finding men that have the qualities of a rho man. Please continue to leave a mark on this place by reaching out in your respective communities to ensure that we are contacting like minded individuals. Rush and recruitment is the life blood of our beloved fraternity. We are actively searching for donations to help fund our 3 rush events this summer. We currently have contacted over 50 potential new members and have very high hopes for the incoming fall class. I hope that you can find time to help our cause.
If you have anyone that may be interested, questions for me, or ideas feel free to contact me at 478-952-7923 or my email [email protected].

Much thanks,
J.W. Gentry "1598"

Brothers, as many people know, we were under a time constraint for Founder's Day and we didn't have the opportunity for the undergraduate address. I would like to share what I had prepared for Founder's Day to highlight a few things that the active chapter has done and been up to since the last Founder's Day.

"Good evening everyone and welcome to Alpha Eta’s 90th Founder’s Day. My name is Tristen George and I am Alpha Gamma Rho’s current Noble Ruler. I am majoring in Management Information Systems with a minor in Computer Science. I am from Blackshear, GA and a part of the Fall 2014 pledge class. For the past 3 years, 785 South Milledge Avenue has been my home away from home.

Alpha Gamma Rho continues to grow as we’ve now hit 90 years of brotherhood. Alpha Eta would not have become what it is today without the continuous support from alumni and the active chapter. Both groups have made many sacrifices, including time, effort, and money, to strengthen our fraternity and to provide a home for many people here at the Dixie House.

As always, philanthropy continues to be a vital aspect of Alpha Gamma Rho. This past fall, we had our annual “Night in the Cold” food drive and it was more successful than ever as we managed to donate over 600 pounds of canned goods. Coming up, we have our annual Spring BBQ and we decided to donate the proceeds to the Special Olympics. The reason for this is one of our recent alumni, Hill Thomas, is a special education teacher and is very passionate about his students. Last year, we chose to donate the proceeds to the ALS community due to it affecting one of our own. As long as we are here, we will continue to improve our relations with the Athens community and strive to serve those less fortunate than us.

Academics have been a large focus of Alpha Gamma Rho and we continue to try and improve our academic standing. Currently, we have managed to improve our GPA ranking that is compared to all fraternities on campus. Last semester, the active chapter managed to have an overall average of a 3.12. Under VNR Bret Mcgowans’s supervision we may continue to raise our GPA. With the tremendous help of Bret, who takes his academics very seriously, we have found better Wi-Fi solutions for the house, and made minor modifications to the office. and under Bret’s supervision we may continue to raise our GPA.

The Dixie House at 785 South Milledge Avenue continues to be the foundation of our brotherhood. As the chapter begins to grow, and the house begins to age, various maintenance has been required to keep the house up to standards. With William Joiner as VNR Operations, generous support from alumni, and help from the active chapter we have managed to prove maintenance is not a problem. Recently, we have repainted the lines in the parking lot and have had several miscellaneous repairs around the house.

At this time, I would like to recognize a few people. First I would like to thank VNR Alumni Relations Justin Lane, all the members of the Executive Committee, and the rest of the active chapter for putting on yet another great Founders Day. Secondly, I would like to thank all of the alumni who have supported this fraternity by donating their money, time, and resources to help keep this place running. And last but certainly not least, I would like to thank all the men and women who have served or are currently serving in this country’s military. These men and women provide us with our daily freedoms, and are the ones who have allowed us to come together tonight to celebrate Founders Day. They have upheld the foundation of our great nation and have sacrificed everything. For those in attendance that are currently serving or have served in our nation’s armed forces; please stand up and be recognized at this time. Thank you for your service and thank you everyone for coming out to support Alpha Eta on our 90th Founder’s Day."

The active chapter really appreciated everyone who came out to support Founder's Day and we hope everyone had a great time.

Brothers - just as a reminder we will be having a Chapter/Alumni Board Meeting at 11 a.m. This Saturday at 785 S. Milledge. Hope to see everyone there!

o the actives: I've spoken with a contact in Donalsonville and he says what they really need right now is chain saws and able bodies. Lots of clearing needs to be done, especially for elderly that can't get trees out of their yards by themselves. I'm very interested in helping with your efforts to gather supplies/materials as a philanthropic project. He said shovels, work gloves, saws, hammers and other building materials would be helpful. For donations of other items such as food, etc., we probably need to focus on Florida where they don't have power or stores up and running. For this, we'd need to go through a church. As for Seminole County, their worst damage was around the lake and my contact said arrangements could be made for keeping a group if we could get up a work gang to go and stay a week....maybe right after semester ends?
In an attempt to keep up with the unique T-shirt stylings that such brothers as Tom Stovall and Edwin Avery wear to causal fraternity events, I will now be sporting the image of the original “Whiskey Rock n’ Roller!” Eat your hearts out!
Help spread the word! ALL Alpha Eta men and friends are invited to attend our Summer Gathering to be held at Brother Ligon O'kelly's place in Winterville, near Athens. The event will be on June 28 and begin at 11am. The planned menu will consist of smoked Boston butt with all the fixins. Water and tea will be provided, otherwise BYOB. We may take donations at the event to help cover our costs. Any proceeds remaining will be donated to our chapter scholarship fund. Please confirm that you will be attending by June 21. If you have any questions please let us know. Check the FB page University of Ga. Alpha Gamma Rho and click the event button. We look forward to seeing you.
