Baseball can open a lot of doors.

In Burke Lyle's case, his passion for baseball statistics led to an internship with the UGA Carl Vinson Institute of Government, where he used his knack for data analytics to help build an interactive dashboard tracking Georgia Department of Education school enrollment data.

A Destination Dawgs postgraduate fellow who also worked as a producer and host for the university's student-run radio station and as an assistant with the FACS Development and Alumni Relations office, Lyle hopes his diverse background leads to a career in the sports world.

After earning her degree in consumer economics at age 40, Amy McGuire (BSFCS '16) paired her passion for helping others with the business tools she gained at UGA to create the Modern Bra Company.

Leveraging her FACS education and the resources of the University of Georgia Small Business Development Center, McGuire built a full-service bra-fitting boutique that focuses on helping women find bras that fit both their body and lifestyle, saving them time and money.

Discover how FACS and UGA helped McGuire find "the right fit" in the latest issue of Georgia Magazine:

She flexed and her sleeves fell off! Future dietitians in Emma Laing’s Medical Nutrition Therapy class conducted various measurements as part of a lesson on anthropometry this week. Unfortunately, they did not have a tape measure sufficient to record the photographer’s biceps peak so just wrote “yes.”

We heard it was National Dog Day so wanted to bless your feed with some shots of our favorite dawg, Hairy, from his visits to Dawson over the years. These go back all the way to 2003, or 161 years ago in Dawg years. Born in 1981, Hairy was but a pup at the time.

A new grant will help our Center on Human Development & Disability / UGA team continue to strengthen pathways for people with disabilities to find and maintain meaningful employment.

The grant from the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities will allow the CHDD's Advancing Employment initiative to continue and expand its mission of providing critical technical assistance, training and resources to help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities secure and maintain competitive employment.

“There are tons of people who want to go to work, they want their first job, a chance to pay taxes, have purchasing power in their community," said Doug Crandell, CHDD Public Service Associate and Advancing Employment project director. "Many times, those individuals may be hesitant to talk to employers and businesses, so we help them with that.”

Dean Z made a guest appearance in a FACS 2000 class today to discuss the history and growth of family and consumer sciences. Instructor Julie Patterson, who apparently was excited about a new microphone, wore her special socks for the occasion. Can you identify the person shown on her socks?
