Today we celebrate #GivingTuesdayNOW to support the bulldawgs who have utilized their talents to serve the true “givers” of the current times - our healthcare workers! From alumni who have returned to serve the Athens community at medical centers like Andrew McKown (https://alumni.uga.edu/2020/04/29/andrew-mckown-bs-07-fights-covid-19-in-the-icu/) to the The University of Georgia College of Engineering providing face shields to healthcare workers (https://news.uga.edu/uga-creating-medical-face-shields/), the The Campus Kitchen at UGA feeding the front lines (https://news.uga.edu/uga-provides-meals-health-care-workers/) and the researchers working to find a cure (https://news.uga.edu/uga-researchers-developing-coronavirus-vaccine/), we are so proud of the way our UGA community has come together and risen to tackle the current times. #CallingAllDawgs #CommitTo

Today is #GivingTuesdayNow, a global call-to-action in response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. Around the world, millions of people will answer that call by supporting health care workers, researchers, and those community members who are most at-risk.

Project Safe Inc.
Habitat for Humanity

In an effort to make the move-out process as efficient and safe as possible during the pandemic, residents were asked to leave behind any items they wished to donate. This week our staff have been hard at work cleaning rooms and sorting those items for distribution to local non-profits. Items like futons, mini fridges, and shelves are being diverted from the landfill and into the hands of community partners like the Athens Habitat for Humanity ReStore and Project Safe Inc. ♻️

The Sparrow’s Nest serves 75 to 125 homeless Athenians every day, and even more since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak. Unable to house its served population due to social distancing guidelines, the shelter has shifted focus and pledged to raise $35,000 by May 29th for emergency relief efforts and has already raised over $25,000 to date!
