Georgia College Advising Corps celebrates 10 years

A decade ago the UGA Institute of Higher Education launched the Georgia College Advising Corps as a resource in underserved high schools to guide seniors through their college admissions journey. Ten years later and the program has quadrupled – and its impact can be felt at both Clarke Central High School and Cedar Shoals High School.

Hannah Gale, a Clarke County School District graduate served by GCAC, says “my adviser really helped me narrow down my options” and chart a course toward her dream of becoming a teacher – and she is now a first-year student at the University of Georgia.

Her favorite spot on campus is the Grady Newsource news room where she says her passion comes to life, and she recommends others find areas of campus where their passions can come to life, too! She said, “In order to make UGA feel like home, you have to actively seek out organizations on campus that align with your passions to form your community and find your place on campus.” To follow Alexis on her OL journey, follow her instagram account, @uga.alexis!
