#LakeManyaraNationalPark
Located on the way to Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti, Lake Manyara National Park is worth a stop in its own right. Its ground water forests, bush plains, baobab strewn cliffs, and algae-streaked hot springs offer incredible ecological variety in a small area, rich in wildlife and incredible numbers of birds.
The alkaline soda of Lake Manyara is home to an incredible array of bird life that thrives on its brackish waters. Pink flamingo stoop and graze by the thousands colourful specks against the grey minerals of the lake shore. Yellow-billed storks swoop and corkscrew on thermal winds rising up from the escarpment, and herons flap their wings against the sun-drenched sky. Even reluctant bird-watchers will find something to watch and marvel at within the national park.

MWALIMU NYERERE ON WILDLIFE CONSERVATION
"The survival of our wildlife is a matter of grave concern to all of us in Africa. These wild creatures amid the wild places they inhabit are not only important as a source of wonder and inspiration but are an integral part of our natural resources and our future livelihood and well being. In accepting the trusteeship of our wildlife we solemnly declare that we will do everything in our power to make sure that our children's grand-children will be able to enjoy this rich and precious inheritance.

The conservation of wildlife and wild places calls for specialist knowledge, trained manpower, and money, and we look to other nations to co-operate with us in this important task - the success or failure of which not only affects the continent of Africa but the rest of the world as well."
Julius K. Nyerere, Arusha Manifesto, 1961

Are you planning a tour to #Tanzania?

If yes, then you need to pack your bags very carefully as the country announced the implementation of banning plastic bags in Tanzania. Tanzania Govt.๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ฟ has issued a notice stating that the plastic bags will be banned from import, export, manufactured, sold or supplied in Tanzania as well as govt.๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ฟ has requested the travelers not to bring any kind of plastic carry bags with them. Till date, 34 countries have prohibited its citizens from using plastic bags and leading the world in plastic bag bans.

#ZaraTours is also much concern about the use of plastic and supports this move.

General information

The UGA Study Abroad in Tanzania program has two options- pick which one interests you most! Sustainable Service Learning Program: The Sustainable Service Learning Study Abroad Program is a unique opportunity to get six credit hours while working with children in Moshi, Tanzania. Spend two weeks at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, touring children's homes (check out our pictures!), hanging out with the kids and learning how to assess their present needs. Then, working within a budget, plan sustainable projects to implement in partnership with the staff of orphanages, schools, and centers around town. Spend your weekends in Moshi shopping in the city, hiking through the rainforest to waterfalls and swimming in hot springs. Then, pack your bags for a week long safari in the famous Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater. UGA Maymester Program: The Maymester Program takes you all over Tanzania for an unforgettable travel-study experience. Spend your first week in Moshi, touring coffee farms, shopping in town, walking through markets and visiting factories. Then it is off to Dar Es Salaam, the capital city, where you will learn more about Tanzania's culture. Next it's the ferry to Zanzibar, the Spice Island. Tour a spice plantation, see Red Colobus monkeys and giant turtles, learn about local culture and spend some time hitting the beautiful beaches of the Indian Ocean. Then, get ready for safari in the Serengeti spotting the Big Five! Traveling the country gets you six hours of credit in anything from Anthropology, African Studies, Natural History, Economics, Agribusiness, Swahili, or Swahili Culture!
