The UGA Extension office in Camden County has experienced its fair share of soaked floors and wet shoes over the years with rain water streaming into the building. Their floors (and feet) are a lot drier these days thanks to a new bioretention cell installed by UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant and a UGA Service-Learning Student Scholar.

UGA expands middle school program on agriculture and nutrition to community center

Earlier this year, the popular UGA Service-Learning program Grow It Know It expanded to an East Athens community center, allowing area students to learn about agriculture and nutrition with their own hands.

When Eric McRae and his team at the UGA Carl Vinson Institute of Government created the new Georgia Broadband Availability Map, they quickly learned that approximately 10% of the state — around 1 million people — doesn't have access to high-speed internet. Now, community leaders and telecom companies are using this revolutionary data to find the blank spots in the map and extend coverage to the communities that need it most.

Lyndhurst Foundation awards sixth round of funding to Institute of Government

A new gift from the Lyndhurst Foundation, the sixth since 2015, will allow the UGA Carl Vinson Institute of Government to continue its Downtown Georgia Renaissance Partnership Program, which helps local governments with revitalization efforts in northwest Georgia and southeast Tennessee.

As the weather warms up, now is a great time to explore the recently renovated nature trail system at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia at UGA. More than a decade in the works, the revamped trails along the Middle Oconee River allow for easier access for all visitors thanks to widened trail sections, a new accessible boardwalk, and ADA accessible parking spots.

The Public Service and Outreach Student Scholar program is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for students to explore and engage with the University of Georgia's public service and outreach mission.

In the fall, students participate in leadership and team-building while also visiting all eight units of PSO. Students then intern with one of the units during the spring semester, gaining first-hand experience on how UGA works to address the real-world challenges in Georgia and beyond.
