LAS students are very interested in issues of development and environmental sustainability. Today we had a chance to discuss these topics with the Second Secretary of the Ecuadorian permanent mission to the United Nations, Andrés Córdova. His expertise and long-term commitment to environmental topics helped students to gain a deeper understanding of the UN work towards meeting SDG and protecting the environment.

Thank you for joining us today, Mr. Córdova!

We are happy to announce that LAS student Valeria Garrido received the 2021 Presidential Medal for Outstanding Research!🎉

Valeria's research focused on the perceptions of traditional medicine in Ecuador. She shares some of her findings:

"My research looked at the perceptions people have in Ecuador about traditional medicine. The results showed a deep rejection towards these practices based on erroneous Western conceptions. In this regard, I hope this research helps us overcome our mental barriers regarding the idea that traditional and Western medicine are incompatible. The ultimate goal of this investigation is to build a steppingstone to take full advantage of both traditions, and therefore enhance Western healthcare systems".

Congratulations, Vale! You make LAS proud. We are positive that this is only the beginning! 👏
