Crane Hollow gift brings one-of-a-kind collection to Ohio University - ohiotoday news

Another major development for the Ohio University Museum Complex!

Crane Hollow Inc. is donating a one-of-a-kind biological collection – featuring more than 120,000 natural specimens and approximately 11,000 different species, many yet to be classified by scientists – to this growing OHIO indoor-outdoor learning laboratory. Valued conservatively at $2 million, the collection, gathered on and about the Crane Hollow Nature Preserve in Hocking County, will be a priceless resource to scientists, researchers, OHIO students and the Southeast Ohio community.

The collection will be housed in The Ridges Lin Hall 211, which is being renovated with donor-contributed funds.

Athens does miss you, Bobcats! 💚 OHIO alumnus Tyler Huffman, BSC ’09, founder of Original Hustle apparel company, has offered to donate a portion of the proceeds from sales of this T-shirt to the COVID-19 Ohio University Student Emergency Fund throughout the month of May. What a great way to show how #BobcatsTakeCare! #BobcatNeighborhood

Please help us share!

Those Athens bricks have done so much for us. We met our best friends, husbands, and wives in this place. Made memories for a lifetime and got a world-class education while we were at it. But we promise you, as much as you miss Athens, it misses you too. More so now than ever! That’s why we wanted to give back by teaming up with The Ohio University Alumni Association.

A portion of the proceeds from our Athens Misses Me tees through the month of May will benefit the Bobcats Take Care: Ohio University COVID-19 Student Emergency Fund!

Alumni turn on-demand business started in OHIO residence hall into multi-million-dollar enterprise - ohiotoday news

“We saw a need, and we filled it.”

That’s the theme Ohio University graduates Aaron Hoffman and John Zinno refer to repeatedly when describing the origins and evolution of Deliverthat, a business conceived on a cold walk to Nelson Dining Hall, born in a room in Adams Hall, and that has grown to 43 locations across North America.

Read about these Bobcat entrepreneurs who seized the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of an emerging on-demand world and have pivoted the business to adapt to changes in the market and to challenges – both expected and unimaginable: http://zpr.io/tdNry

Bobcats Take Care: Julie Ciotola

Over the past several weeks, our community has shown that Bobcats take care of each other! And, in true Bobcat spirit, alumni and friends — including President M. Duane Nellis, Executive Vice President and Provost Elizabeth Sayrs, several deans and university administrators — have stepped forward to create a 1:1 match for the Ohio University COVID-19 Student Emergency Fund to ensure we are able to meet the needs of every student who needs our help.

This means that every dollar given will be matched up to a total of $93,000! Your gift of $10 becomes $20, and your gift of $100 becomes $200. We know that this pandemic has a global impact and that this is a difficult time for everyone. If you are able to support students at this time, please make a gift on bobcatstakecare.ohio.edu.

OHIO’s Class of 1970 looks back on a school year unlike any other - ohiotoday news

Like Ohio University’s current students who left campus for Spring Break only to later learn that the remainder of their spring semester would be conducted through remote and online learning, Bobcats enrolled at the University in the spring of 1970 also ended the school year in an unexpected way.

On May 15, 1970, then-President Claude Sowle announced the closing of Ohio University – 11 days after members of the National Guard opened fire on a crowd at Kent State University protesting the Vietnam War, killing four Kent State students and sparking increasingly violent protests at college campuses across the country. Ohio University students were given 24 hours to vacate campus.

It was particularly devastating news to OHIO’s Class of 1970 whose last month as Ohio University students ended in an instant.

Ohio Today News caught up with three Golden Bobcats who reflected on their Ohio University experience and a school year unlike any other – and offered some advice to the students graduating 50 years after them: http://zpr.io/tLirJ.

We want to hear from other Golden Bobcats! Share some of your favorite memories and photos here!

2020 Celebrate Women conference makes history, virtually connecting and empowering participants during COVID-19 pandemic - ohiotoday news

Talk about Bobcat resilience!

Inspired by the “Nevertheless, she persisted” mantra of the modern-day feminist movement, organizers of Ohio University Lancaster’s 14th annual Celebrate Women conference seized the opportunity to make history of their own, moving the event to a virtual setting amid the global COVID-19 pandemic.

“Rather than cancel the event, the Celebrate Women Ohio University Lancaster committee saw the conference as needed now more than ever to bring people together and to have a positive message in the face of adversity,” said Pam Kaylor, one of the conference organizers and an associate professor of instruction at Ohio University Lancaster.

“The University being really intentional about being a tool for the region makes me proud to be an alumnus.” That’s how Chillicothe Mayor and 2002 Ohio University graduate Luke Feeney described the role his alma mater is playing in the Mayors’ Partnership for Progress (MPP).

Supported by a partnership with Ohio University's Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs, the MPP serves mayors and city managers in 18 counties, bringing these leaders together to share information and resources and to tackle issues faced by communities throughout the region. It’s a resource that’s been especially helpful during the COVID-19 pandemic. https://www.ohio.edu/news/2020/04/ohio-mayors-partnership-helping-areas-leaders-cope-pandemic #BobcatsTakeCare

On this day with so much going on...I just want to say I'm thinking of our Kent St. friends on this 50th Anniversary.
Congratulations Samantha Tayek! Today was supposed to be commencement day at Ohio University. We held our own commencement in our house! Appropriately, Sammi is wearing her dad’s cap and gown from 39 years ago at OU and holding my diploma. Yes, we both graduated from the College of Fine Arts. (Sammi, Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance). Thus, we can legitimately share the pink tassel. Red and white ribbon represents Sigma Alpha Iota Woman’s International Music Fraternity. Love you Sammi!
I attempted to update my info, but I live outside of the U.S. and the form on the Alumni site will not accept updates without a state. Why can I choose the country I live in (Canada), but not the province?
