The Archway Partnership connects communities across Georgia to the knowledge, expertise and other resources at the University of Georgia. The community determines the needs and Archway facilitates identification of faculty and students with expertise and similar interest.

Mission: The Archway Partnership is a University of Georgia community engagement platform created to enhance the land grant mission of teaching, research and service while addressing self-identified community needs in geographically dispersed locations across the state.

McDuffie Archway Professional Sam Perren and community leaders from McDuffie recently participated in UGA Fanning Institute for Leadership's Train the Trainer class. Leaders from Colquitt County also participated in the class last week. The class is designed for community members to help take the collaboration and leadership lessons from Fanning back to their communities to encourage cooperation and problem-solving. #UGAPartners

This morning in Moultrie, two UGA students presented their year-long projects to the Colquitt Co Executive Committee. Binh Dao, a Terry College of Business MBA student, presented his housing study in preparation for the opening of PCOM South Georgia in Moultrie. In his study, Binh assessed opportunities and barriers for development as well as what students are looking for in today's market. UGA Public Service and Outreach Scholar Tarun Ramesh presented his research on teen pregnancy in Colquitt and south Georgia. Tarun's research is helping to inform the Healthy Colquitt Coalition's decision on an intervention for this significant health issue. #UGAPartners

Over the last year, seniors in The University of Georgia College of Engineering have been working on their Senior Capstone Projects. Tuesday featured a showcase of all the projects, about half of which were in Archway Partnership communities. They range from a wastewater treatment plan in Spalding County to a park lighting plan in Hart County. The designs are all great and we look forward to seeing communities take the next step with these plans! #UGAPartners

Projects are self-directed, staffed, funded and supported. The program is the result of the Archway Partnership connecting the Chamber to the UGA Fanning Institute for Leadership to revamp its leadership program with new curriculum and goals, placing an emphasis on community leadership and impact. #UGAPartners

Archway graduate student and Terry College of Business MBA candidate Mary Helen Turnage presented her research on restaurant best practices at the Ellenton City Council meeting on Monday.

Her research included suggestions for various restaurants with different requirements & startup costs. She explored benefits and challenges of the small city and ended with a second presentation on recommendations for a community center that involved exercise programs and other activities for seniors. #UGAPartners

Over the past year, UGA School of Public and International Affairs MPA student Makinizi Hoover has worked to create a marketing plan for the Hart College & Career Academy (CCA). The report is the result of surveys from parents, teacher & students regarding their awareness of the CCA. Makinizi, alongside Hart Archway Professional Anna Strickland presented the final report to the CCA Board at their monthly meeting. During this year’s spring break, a group of students from UGA are spending the week traveling with UGA Public Service and Outreach across Georgia and learning ways the university is engaged across the state.

On Wednesday, they visited Macon and Pulaski County. They heard from NewTown Macon, Ocmulgee National Monument Superintendent Jim David and officials in Hawkinsville discussed the Archway Partnership in Pulaski County and some of the other work UGA is doing in Central Georgia. #UGAPartners

The utility and longtime supporter of community improvement presented a check for $25,000 to the Thomson-McDuffie Archway Partnership to support ongoing Archway projects in the area, including the Renaissance Strategic Visioning and Planning Program. The RSVP Program is run by the UGA Carl Vinson Institute of Government to help revitalize downtowns across Georgia. #UGAPartners
