Jessica Rossi’ 16, a Psychology major from Hawaii, found a home away from home at Menlo College. Excelling in both basketball and her studies, Rossi made lasting memories with friends on and off the courts. While researching for her senior thesis, she discovered a passion for the biology and psychology behind Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy and how it affects athletes transitioning out of professional sports.

Combining her love of sports with her field of study fueled her ambition to earn a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and find a career that allows her to help fellow former athletes. “Menlo was probably the greatest time of my life; I had so much fun. I was just involved in a lot of different things and it really got me out of my shell and kind of helped me develop into the bright and bubbly person I am today.” #potentialonfire #oakstrong

Current Board of Trustee Member Chris Garrett '94 came to Menlo to study Marketing, but he graduated Menlo as an entrepreneur. Before graduating, he also produced a complete business plan for a sustainable craft brewing company, his lifelong dream and founded Devil’s Canyon Brewery in 2001. Voted Bay Area’s “Best Beer Bar” in 2014 by San Francisco A-List readers, Garrett’s dream business is thriving and has currently committed to producing hand sanitizer for our front line workers.

Chris is in awe at how far Menlo has come in terms of career preparedness, internship opportunities, and diversity, and he affirms from his own experiences that the Menlo College experience is a life-changing one. #potentialonfire #oakstrong

Alumni Spotlight: Cheyenne Frias '18

Cheyenne Frias, Marketing major, and former Menlo Women's Soccer team member has been exploring her career options post-graduation. Here she shares her excitement and ambitions for her career in fitness.
_

What have you been up to since graduation?

"Since graduation, I have worked in public relations, advertising, and social media. I am now a certified personal trainer and also work in real estate social media. I compete in fitness bikini competitions as well as train online clients. I went through 2 jobs before I landed my current role as Social Media Coordinator at First American Title. During this process, I learned that it’s okay to figure out what you do and don’t like!"
_

What challenges/opportunities have you experienced?

"Don’t feel like the first job you get out of college is where you’re going to be forever. Get out there and see what you really enjoy! Balancing my job and the passion that turned into another job has definitely given me challenges. But, at the end of the day, you should always have other avenues that bring you happiness and additional income. I look forward to growing in my profession, expanding my business, and becoming an NPC bikini pro!"
_

What did you learn from Menlo that has helped you post-graduation?

"Menlo gave me SO many resources to be successful. I learned that networking is [very] important in post-grad life. Get out there, make yourself available to opportunities and don’t be afraid to say no to some things. Not everything you’re presented with will always be the right choice. I think we get so afraid to upset people or that we won’t get the perfect job if we say no. Stick to what feels right and always bring your best!"

Happy Spring Equinox!

Although this may not seem important, it’s valuable to celebrate the bright moments!

Doctors recommend taking a break by spending a little time outside. Exercise, sunlight, and being around trees can all benefit mood. So, if you're able, take a walk outside on this first day of Spring! (While maintaining safety & social distancing rules, of course!)
