Sixty-three years ago today, 250k people gathered in D.C. to stand up for human rights and for the dignity of Black people. Wow: could it not be that the ancestors are speaking to us through memory? Is it not possible, and even likely, that the ancestors are saying “Never Forget?”

Thank God there are people and places which recognize the importance of studying religion. Hopefully, we will work to strengthen African American institutions whose mission is to study religion and to prepare men and women to engage it critically in our contemporary culture.

"Many more students enter my class today wondering what religion really is, what we mean by the word spirituality, and what people actually do in religious communities," writes Erin Cline.

Tomorrow, when your child ask you,” what does this mean?” You will say to your child, “the LORD with a firm hand caused us to leave Egypt, from the house of slavery.” This is a liberation translation of Exod 13: 14. We got to teach the history of Black people and liberation at home, in our schools, and in our churches. Happy Juneteenth everyone!
