Thank God there are people and places which recognize the importance of studying religion. Hopefully, we will work to strengthen African American institutions whose mission is to study religion and to prepare men and women to engage it critically in our contemporary culture.

What a great gathering we had this weekend at the Charles H. Mason Theological Seminary in Atlanta! Hosting the Divine Concept Group this weekend on the campus of the Interdenominational Theological Center was phenomenal. The discussions were inspiring, the participation was strong, and the momentum we are building is exciting. You should be a part of this meeting next year. Facts!!

Preventing and punishing people for reading “Roots” could unintentionally discourage open discussion and critical thinking about difficult but very important chapters of American history like the role Christianity played in justifying the rape,dehumanization, and torture of Black people.
