Stories have the power to challenge stigma, build connection, and transform public health practice.

Join the Emory Centers for Public Health Training and Technical Assistance and the Emory COMPASS Coordinating Center for a special screening of The Power of Emory COMPASS. This documentary explores how art, storytelling, and lived experience are shaping the HIV narrative and public health practice across the U.S. South.

The film centers the voices of public health leaders, advocates, partners, coaches, and community leaders whose creativity, resilience, and relationships are driving meaningful change across Southern communities.

Following the screening, stay for a panel talkback and networking with food and drinks as we explore the intersections of arts, wellbeing, storytelling, and public health—and their role in strengthening community connection and healing.

📅 Thursday, October 15
🕖 7–9 p.m.

Aging with HIV is a public health success story—and a call to action.

Thanks to advances in HIV treatment, people who begin and stay on antiretroviral therapy can suppress the virus and live long, healthy lives. Today, more than half of people living with diagnosed HIV in the United States are age 50 or older.

On National HIV/AIDS and Aging Awareness Day, Emory Centers for Public Health Training and Technical Assistance celebrates the resilience of people aging with HIV and recognizes the public health professionals, health care providers, and community organizations supporting them.

Longer lives also bring evolving needs. Older adults living with HIV may experience chronic health conditions, medication interactions, mental health concerns, social isolation, and stigma. They are also more likely than younger adults to receive a late HIV diagnosis.

We can help build a more age-inclusive response by:

• Normalizing HIV testing at every age
• Strengthening connections to treatment and support services
• Coordinating care across health conditions
• Challenging HIV- and age-related stigma

Healthy aging should be possible for everyone.

Twenty-five years later, we remember.

Today, Emory Centers for Public Health Training and Technical Assistance honors those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001; the loved ones they left behind; the survivors; and the first responders, recovery workers, healthcare and public health professionals, and community members who served in the face of unimaginable loss. We also recognize those who continue to live with the physical and emotional effects of that day and its aftermath.

As we reflect on our own 25-year history, we are mindful that our work began during a period that reshaped the nation’s understanding of preparedness, resilience, and collective responsibility. That history strengthens our commitment to supporting the public health workforce and helping communities prepare, respond, recover, and thrive.

On this Patriot Day, we pause to remember—and recommit to serving with compassion, partnership, and purpose.

Just as teams are more than the sum of their parts, Emory Centers for Public Health Training and Technical Assistance is more than the sum of its employees. We want to thank all our staff, partners, and public health colleagues for bringing that unidentifiable quality to our mission and helping us reach new heights by working together. Happy Labor Day!

09/02/2026

Leaders from healthcare, public health, philanthropy, businesses, coalitions, nonprofits, and community organizations recently came together at Emory Centers for Public Health Training and Technical Assistance for our Cross-Sector Summit: Building Partnerships for Thriving Communities.

One theme surfaced throughout the day: meaningful community change is rarely the work of a single organization. Whether the conversation focused on food access, housing, chronic disease prevention, or behavioral health, speakers emphasized the importance of bringing together people with different perspectives and resources.

We also heard a valuable reminder that successful partnerships depend on more than funding. Clear roles, shared decision-making, community engagement, measurement, and long-term commitment all play a role in sustaining collaborative efforts and creating lasting impact.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for a day of thoughtful discussion and new connections. Special thanks to our speakers and panelists for sharing practical examples of collaboration in action to work toward better health outcomes for all.
