Morris Brown College Morris Brown College, founded in 1881 by the African Methodist Episcopal Church, is a private, coeducational, liberal arts college in Atlanta.

The College is proud of its tradition of serving the educational needs of the best and brightest young minds, while simultaneously providing educational support to students who might not otherwise receive the opportunity to compete on the college level. Students fitting the latter are given the tools they need to increase their potential for earning a college degree.

Congratulations to Morris Brown College sophomore Mason Wright!

Mason has been selected to be part of the 2026 HBCU Sustainable Agriculture Innovation Consortium (HSAIC) entrepreneurship program.

Through the Kingdom Harvest Initiative, a 10-week project, students with the most innovative agribusiness or agribusiness facility will have a chance to win $5,000.

Mason created Plant It Georgia Vertical Institute, a mobile agricultural lab. Working alongside him on the mobile lab is University of Georgia student Kosey Henley. The enclosed trailer that allows them to introduce others to the process of growing food without traditional farmland, he says, will serve as an educational method for training young people in vertical farming, hydroponics and other modern agricultural technologies.

Up next: Students will take part in a Mobile Learning Lab Showcase and Demonstration on October 27 at IBEW Local 613 on Pulliam Street in Atlanta.

More info:

Kudos also to Mason also for being selected to travel to Washington, D.C., to speak at the 15th-Annual Black Youth Vote! National Civic Leadership and Organizing Training Conference in August! He has worked with Black Youth Vote! for four years, helping young people understand that civic participation goes beyond casting a ballot.

Grateful for the opportunity for Morris Brown College professor Sunny Brown and sophomore Denym Chambers to weigh in on a segment of Atlanta’s and the nation’s history.

In MBC’s Survey of African-American History class taught by professor Brown, students examined the Atlanta Race Massacre, which took place during a critical Georgia gubernatorial race.

CBS News reporter Nakell Williams covered the class talk and this brutal attack 120 years after the massacre that historians note left dozens dead and others injured.
