🔬 Student Spotlight: Katie Dale
This summer, 3rd-year MSE student Katie Dale began working as a Packaging Engineering Intern with the Printpack Inc. Product Development Team in Atlanta, GA, where she will continue full time through December.
Katie is gaining hands-on experience in flexible packaging development by supporting material qualifications, manufacturing trials, mechanical testing, and technical projects involving polymer films. Through this work, she is developing a firsthand understanding of how material selection, polymer behavior, and manufacturing processes influence packaging performance at production scale.
Katie is excited to carry this industry experience into the rest of her MSE coursework and future career!

Materials science can inspire new ways of thinking about our relationship with the world around us.
MSE Associate Professor Juan-Pablo Correa-Baena recently collaborated with Chicago-based artist Jeremy Bolen on an installation exploring solar energy and humanity’s evolving relationship with sunlight.
Their work was featured in Crossing Grounds: Art, Design, and Technology, an international exhibition in Seoul that brings together artists, designers, scientists and technologists.
