We work to create creative experiences where students can discover more about themselves both inside and outside of the classroom. The Honors College offers talented and motivated undergraduate students the experience of a highly selective small college combined with the breadth of programs and opportunities of a large public research university in a dynamic and thriving city. Once admitted to the

Honors College, students pursue degrees in any of Georgia State’s over 200 programs of study, with enhanced opportunities for academic achievement, research, housing, cultural programs, advisement, preparation for graduate or professional school and mentoring for prestigious national undergraduate and postgraduate scholarship and fellowship competitions.

This past summer, Honors College senior and psychology major Ana de la Torre y Estrada traveled to China for a GSU study abroad program. She chose China because the country has been a dream destination for a long time. Ana has been studying the Mandarin language since researching Chinese culture in high school. She not only saw different cultural landmarks such as The Great Wall and The Palace Museum, but also experienced cultural activities such as the Chinese Beijing Opera, traditional Chinese tea and Tai Chi.

Ana's biggest takeaway from this experience was that the Chinese people she met were some of the nicest, kindest and most enthusiastic people she has ever encountered. She noted, "if you ever get the chance to go, please do so. You will not regret choosing China as your destination."

Ana will return to East Asia this fall, traveling to and studying in Taiwan.

Last night we welcomed a new class of Honors students during our Induction Ceremony, a special milestone that officially marks their entry into the Honors College community.

Students had the opportunity to meet one another, learn about ways to get involved and begin envisioning the experiences that will shape their college years. We are excited to welcome them to the Honors College and look forward to all they will accomplish in the years ahead.

To our new Honors families: thank you for trusting us to be part of your students' journey. We look forward to supporting them as they learn, grow and discover what's possible.

In mid-June, Honors alum Supriya Marwaha (Class of 2026, BBA, Finance) attended Harvard Business School's (HBS) Summer Venture Management Program, a highly selective pre-MBA experience. Supriya was the only attendee representing GSU.

Through the program's Harvard Case Method, she analyzed challenges in AI, healthcare, social venture capital, crisis management and data analytics alongside peers from consulting, hedge funds, entrepreneurship and nonprofit leadership.

One of the program's highlights was learning directly from HBS faculty, gaining unique insights into leadership and decision-making. Outside the classroom, Supriya explored the Harvard campus and the surrounding Cambridge area.

Inspired by a community of intellectually curious and impact-driven changemakers, Supriya strengthened her commitment to using business as a force for positive change and gained a deeper appreciation for the value of diverse perspectives, openness to new ideas and the power of making an impact beyond perceived limitations.

This April, Honors College student Samuel Oriola attended the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) in Richmond, Virginia. His NCUR participation was made possible by a Just-in-Time grant from the Emeriti Association, which supports Georgia State Honors College students with their research efforts.

At the conference, Samuel presented his research, connected with others working in his major (data science) and learned about graduate programs at top institutions. Samuel returned home inspired by the innovative research happening across the country and the encouraging conversations with those who visited his poster... and the welcoming community that made each day at the conference memorable!

Beyond the conference, Samuel explored Richmond’s culture through its restaurants, trails, historic sites and local businesses. Overall, it was an incredible experience that supported his professional and personal growth.

In addition to presenting at NCUR, Samuel was also the student speaker at the Emeriti Association Spring Luncheon and delivered a presentation at TEDxGeorgiaStateU.

Three incredible milestones. One unforgettable spring semester for Honors College senior (now alum) and Presidential Scholar, Puja Raol:

🏆 First, Puja was selected as the 2026 recipient of the Nell Hamilton Trotter Student Leadership Award, the highest student leadership award at GSU. Puja was chosen based on her service and leadership with the Indian Cultural Club, the PreMedical Mentorship and Clinical Program and Circle K International. At the ceremony, she was cheered on by her friends and fellow Honors students. She also met Dr. Michael Sanseviro, Vice President for Student Engagement, and Dr. Bridget Blake, GSU's First Lady.

🎓 Second, she graduated from GSU summa cm laude, with a BS in neuroscience and an Honors Laureate.

🌍 Third, she received the Fulbright-Nehru Open Study/Research Award. This fall, she will depart to India for nine months of research, studying mental health interventions for rural Indian youth.

The prestigious Beckman Scholars Program reflects Georgia State University’s commitment to expanding access to high-impact research and driving student success through opportunity. Designed to be immersive and sustained, the program pairs exceptional undergraduates with faculty mentorship and professional development that prepares them to be successful in their future careers.

With strong financial and academic support, the program removes barriers and allows students from all backgrounds to focus on their research and future in STEM. Beckman Scholars go on to pursue advanced degrees—including PhD, MD, and MD/PhD programs—and are well positioned to become leaders in their fields.

In late March, Tammy Joseph, Honors College senior, visited Harvard Medical School in Boston, toured three active labs and presented her research at the New England Science Symposium hosted by the Biomedical Sciences Careers Program.

The experience allowed Tammy to connect with incredible peers from across the country, including undergraduate, graduate, and medical students as well as postdoctoral fellows. She shared her work, received valuable feedback and learned about the inspiring research others are doing in so many different areas of science and medicine.

Here's what Tammy has to say about her experience: "Most of all, the experience gave me even more perspective, motivation, and excitement to keep pursuing my dream of becoming a doctor."

What does the "pursuit of happiness" actually mean? Honors College senior, Victoria Oltean, took that question all the way to Washington, D.C., presenting her research at the 2026 Center for the Study of the Presidency & Congress (CSPC) conference as a Presidential Fellow. A Political Science major and Georgia Legislative Intern Program alum, Victoria’s paper explores how Jefferson's original vision has shifted across 250 years of American political life.

Well done, Victoria, and congratulations on being GSU’s first CSPC Fellow!
