Continuing our celebration of , we honor the vital contributions, leadership, and growing impact of women in the pharmacy profession, celebrating the Mercer alumnae who embody that impact every day.

"Changing the world, one student at a time." That's what Mercer strives for. Few personify that mission like Dr. Nikki Bryant (PharmD '03).

Dr. Bryant has dedicated her career to something powerful by bringing vital healthcare services to her rural community. Her work is a living example of what a Mercer Pharmacy education is meant to do: equip compassionate, capable leaders who change lives: one patient and one community at a time.

On , we're remembering Mary Rose Greer (1882–1954).

She graduated from the Southern School of Pharmacy (now the Mercer University College of Pharmacy) in 1906 and is believed to be Georgia's first woman pharmacist.

After graduating, Rose moved to the small town of Baconton, where she worked as a "druggist." Census records show she managed and worked in drug stores for decades, and by 1950 she owned her own retail drugstore. For roughly 30 years, she served a rural community with no other pharmacy, and she was active in its business and religious life.

Rose also made her mark on the profession. In the late 1920s and early 30s she served as the first president of the Georgia Pharmacists Association's Women's Auxiliary and later joined its board.

Rose's legacy honors the women who came before us and the pharmacist's enduring commitment to the community.

Alumni Spotlight: Ashlyn Carter, PharmD '12

Ashlyn's path into pharmacy started close to home, as she watched community pharmacists care for her grandmother during her cancer journey. Today, she's come full circle as a Clinical Pharmacist II at Emory Winship Cancer Institute, where she dispenses chemotherapy in an oncology infusion center.

Her career took a few turns: she started as a floater pharmacist for Target, worked up to store manager, then pivoted into infusion pharmacy seven years ago through a connection with a fellow Mercer intern.

Ashlyn credits Mercer's reputation and the problem-solving skills she developed there for helping shape her career, along with mentors like Drs. Moniri, Klein, Winkles, and Bartling.

Her advice to future PharmDs? "Try it out beforehand!" And don't forget: "Never burn a bridge because pharmacy is so small."

What she loves most about where she is now? It's a career that gives her room to grow, and the ability to spend time with her family.
